For games that let you pick the name, I use Vryce.

In the case of Final Fantasy titles, where it will let you name every major/playable character, I leave them at default, except for Tidus, Cloud, whats his name from FF IX and FF VIII.

I name each of my characters individually based on their look and personality. Sometimes it takes me awhile to come up with a name I'm satisfied with.

I think it totally takes away from the game you are playing, if you don't go with the default name. In Zelda: OoT for instance, how can you not have your character named Link? Link is an essential character in Hyrule, and has been known by that in all of the various quests. Not Steven or MadDogBMX... There's no way such a mold should be broken. To insure that none of the saves on the game were that crazy, I dictated that the saves would be Link, link, and LINK. Default names for me, by far!

A lot of times it's Sh*thead because I get a kick out of hearing NPCs say "Hey, Sh*thead..."

For some reason in PSO I was Wussy00, usually I am just ahmann

I nearly always put Scheherazade which sucks cuz most games have guy characters or assume a guy name. Usually if I know it's a male character I'll just let it default or use something from the book I'm currently reading.

I don't play consoles anymore, but when I used to, it was normally either just the default name or cecil (back from FFII)... on pc games, it's always Feneant, plus since its not even a real word, it's not taken (or if it is, someone stole my creation!) ...Diablo, DiabloII, UT, DAOC, EQ, AC, AO, the list goes on... the only Feneant around was and still is me. I have been asked at times in one game if it was me in the other game by people I had met so using an original name works :)
