Can Xbox play region 2 DVD's?

Can the Xbox play DVD's from region 2 (Europe)? I want to buy the Family Guy on DVD but it's only available in the UK and says region 2 on it? Thanks.

What's your source on that? Nobody still knows as far as I can tell.*

*No, the Region 1 DVD addon can't play DVDs outside region 1/0, but nobody knows if you could import another region and play that region on the DVD player. The DVD player does convert PAL to NTSC.

Why bother. You can easily find an already fully modified Daewoo (plays anything and everything) for $130.....

Why bother paying $130 when you could possibly get it for $30 or so? Anyway, I was pointing out that your answer isn't 100% correct, at least we don't know this yet.

Why would you buy an X-box in the first place? If you are thinking about answering that question, don't. I'm not trying to start a video game thread here. Plus you could never convince me to think differently anyway.

GP, I think he's talking to himself. Don't make any sudden moves and back away slowly.

The xbox as is cannot play region 2, or any other region besides 1 or 0. Once the xbox comes out in other regions (japan, uk) somebody will probably find a way to hack it. until then no r2 dvds for u! at least on your xbox. however, if you have uk pal discs that are r0 they will play on the xbox. (flawlessly i might add)

true however if you are like me and like dvds from other regions, and dont want to buy a malata. the xbox is a great solution. i already have it to play my games on, now i have a dvd player for my pal discs. saves me another 300 bucks.

I contacted lak-sing.com and they told me that they'll be coming out with a region-free disc for the X-Box (much like the one already available for the PS2), and since the X-Box converts PAl to NTSC I would assume that we'll be able to play any DVD once that comes out.

Oh and has anyone tried playing any anamorphic R0 PAL DVDs on an X-Box? Does it look as good as it would on a European DVD player? Any framing problems or anything else?
