It pretty much just fuzzes up the glare a bit, which is just as bad, because it tends to darken/blur the screen. The only true way to get rid of the glare is to have the clear plastic at a different angle then the LCD. Big engineering oversight for Nintendo to have both the LCD and the window parallel. That means the light that hits the LCD at the perfect angle to your eye also hits the reflective glass at the same perfect angle to hit your eye.
