What's the difference in the PS2 models?

I'm selling mine on ebay and someone emailed me looking for the SPCH-30001 model. I know that's one of the first models, what makes it so special????

I know the models that are coming out now(actually since july 2001) don't need the boot disc that comes with the Sony DVD remote. The first models need those disc to use the remote. Don't know the model numbers though.

If it has an R at the end of 30001 it is one of the newer models with the latest DVD drivers. I can't think of any other differences unless an older model is easier to hack with a mod chip.

Can anyone tell me about model SPCH-35001?

Some of the older models are easier to "chip".. than the newer ones coming out.

Also, some accessories like the GameShark and Sharkport have capatibility issues with certain model #'s

Also - the Playstation splash animation that pops up when you turn it on is different for the older 'launch' PS2s than it is today... I've been told that the older one is cooler.

I've yet to figure those darn cubes out, but I have at least figured out it has something to do with games saved to the memory card. The animation seems different depending on what memory cards I have in the system at start up.
