Why can't PS and PS2 games be copied like a regular cd?

I would figure data is data. I have wondered this for along time and never saw a reason for why not. I understand that some PS2 games are on DVD, but alot of games are one disc.

Just wondering

To put it simply without going into great detail....
The cd's have "bad sectors" that each system reads to verify that its an original disc. Cd copying/burning software will not read and reproduce those bad sectors.

Playstation games can be copied like a regular CD, although to play them the Playstation must be modded. I heard of a way to mod the Ps2 but I'm not sure whether it accepts DVD-Rs or whether it's just to play burned Playstation games on a Ps2. Obviously, playing burned games is illegal and I wouldnt suggest doing it.

You can just use a gameshark to play CD-Rs/DVD-Rs (PS1 and 2 games) on a PS2. Alot of ps2 games fit on a CD-R
