A question for Medal Of Honor owners.

Can I use a joystick?

A joystick is mentioned in the manual once, but I'll be darned if i can figure out how to use it. In the "Controls" menu, it only mentions keyboard and mouse.

What gives? Can I use a joystick? If so, how do I set the game up to use it?

Thanks for your help.

Joysticks are pretty klutzy for FPS games... theres a reason most people use the keyboard and mouse.

It must be a law of nature or something that every time a guy asks about a question anywhere about using a joystick in a FPS game, somebody's got to chime in and tell him that he shouldn't use a joystick. Like that's supposed to be helpful information or something.

Anyway....according to's tech support site:
"No, Medal of Honor: Allied Assault does not support gamepads or controllers and will be unable to detect and configure them properly. Medal of Honor: Allied Assault uses the standard First Person Shooter keyboard layout (WASD movement.)"

But since MOH:AA is based on the Quake3 engine (right?), I'm guessing that you could somehow hack some files here and there to make it work. Unfortunately, the FPS games' continuing lack of working joystick/gamepad-support have beaten me down to the point where I no longer bother to try and figure out all the files/hacks/patches you have to set up to get joystick support to work. I just give up and use the keyboard.

The reason I prefer a joystick/gamepad was that after sitting at a keyboard mousing/typing at work all day long, the last thing I want to do when playing a game is use the keyboard/mouse some more.

I wasnt trying to be condescending or anything, I've just watched people play shooters with a joystick before, and it looked like they weren't having a very easy time with it. I sure wouldnt mind seeing someone come up with a controller for FPS games that could replace the ease of use and quickness of the mouse/keyboard combo, but so far I havent.

But you're right, since it's based on Quake 3, it's probably pretty hackable, so if you want to use a joystick, more power to you
