I just discovered that there is a TechTV show called Extended Play about video games (http://www.extendedplay.com). Anyone know if this will this be a problem legally?

thanks.
Buster.

Hey Trigger,

Looks like you win. In a come from behind victory, I've decided to go with Armchair Arcade. I didn't want to fool with the Extended Play cofusion. I think I'll still use some kind of Couch Monkey mascot though.

What do you guys think?

Buster.

with any name you go with check the US patent and trademark office and see if anyone registered the name first. Even if Extended Play uses the name before you they would have to register the trademark in the same category in order to have any real legal right to it.

be sure to register your trade mark too.

check this out:

http://www.brandfidelity.com/screen?term=extended+play

there is a trademark on "Extended Play". looks like it's a sports clothing line. also, a trademark on "Extended Play" has been "abandoned" by ZDTV, (which later became TechTV). it was for "Goods and Services: Providing information about technology, computers, computing, computer hardware, computer software, computer technology, interactive and online services, entertainment, computer and video games, via global computer information networks."

i wonder why they abandoned it if the show is still on...

if i do a search for "Armchair Arcade" (http://www.brandfidelity.com/screen?...rmchair+arcade) there is no trademarks, active or otherwise.

Buster.

Correct me if I am wrong..but a trademark for a service that doesn't do anything related to your game store can be used...also I doubt ZDNET or whoever would go after a local video store. However, if you named your place, BLOCKBUSTER's or something, then you would be in trouble.
