Ever hook an Atari 2600 to a big screen?
I've been meaning to hook mine up for some time now, and hope to get to it this week. How is Combat on a 50 inch?
|
I have mine on a 28 inch. Looks terrible. Plays great!
|
I have mine hooked up to a 35 inch TV. It looks as good as can be expected. It uses an RF modulator so I can't really expect much other than a bunch of snow and/or lines in the picture. I've noticed things like this which could make the picture very good. I'm looking around for somepalce other than ebay to get this, but $8.20 shipped doesn't seem bad if it works as good as advertised.

Cool, thanks

HAHAHA...this thread cracks me up. Wish I still had my NES...that would be good times.

whoa! Playing Atari or NES on a 50 inch TV? I can't even imagine that, the characters would be bigger than my head. Not to mention you will be able to see each individual pixel.
Anyone have an HDTV and want to try an old Atari or NES on? Post some pics please :D. Or how about listening to the game music on a high quality expensive home theater system? Listen to the bleep and bloops! See how clear and precise it sounds. And the tone of the bleep, perfectly harmonizes with the background "bloop....bloop.....bloop". Exquisite! |
We've played sega genesis on a 53 inch screen. It looked crappy. But then again genesis always looked crappy :)
Going from playing GT3 to playing Virtua Racer 32X in less than an hour reminds you jsut how far video games have come in 10 years. |

Well, I don't have the pics yet, but I hooked it up. For some reason, the picture wouldn't totaly fill the screen, even in the stretch modes. The picture was shifted an inch or two to the right and about an inch down. Didn't matter though, because the tanks in Combat were nice and big.
Right after I got it hooked up, my wife came down to see what I was doing. She just shook her head and went back upstairs without saying a word. :) |

Be very, very careful of burn-in with the 2600. I did it just to see how it looked, and that was enough for me. Kinda' cool, but I prefer a true monitor for most of my games.

Just to show everyone the opposite end of the spectrum, here is a site that makes a portable 2600. Really cool.

wasn't Warlords (with the paddles) a four-player game? i wonder if that makes it the first four-player home video game...
in any case, does anyone know if its possible to hook the Atari up to RCA/composite video or even S-video? simply for the lack of available connectors on my tv. |

I have my toploading NES (modded for RCA output) hooked up to my projector. It's not the greatest resolution, not the greatest projector, but gosh darned it... you've never played Mario until he is as big as your head. When you have to move your head around to follow the character... that's good stuff... :)
Also hooked up is a SNES, DC, Genesis, Sega CD. Playing the old RPGs on the SNES on a 6 foot screen is heaven. |

We used to have this really old Advent projection TV with like a 90 something inch screen that was on stands and the projector base unit served double duty as a coffee table. I used to hook up my Atari 2600 to this sometimes and it would rock. My parents didn't like me to do that so they made me hook it up to the 27 or 32" zenith. I still have the Atari, but I haven't hooked it up lately.
