Do I have to use the CD for Half-Life?
I installed Half-life on my computer a year ago, and I remember not having to put the CD in the drive to play it. I hit a buggy spot where the game would always freeze in the elevator heading up to the surface to fight the Osprey. So I reinstalled it, and now I need to put the CD in the drive to play the game.
Is there a patch which will eliminate this? I hate it! Also, do any of the 1.1.0.8 , etc patches improve the play of Half-Life itself? I'm not too interested in Team Fortress. Thanks! |
Yeah there's a patch that pretty much doubles the polygon count, improves the AI, and adds new animations.
What you need is a CD Key # when you start it up for the first time, after that you don't need a CD. PS I think I know which bug you're talking about, I hate that one. |
I hate how games need the CD in there. I know it's for copy protection and stuff, but people find a way to get past that anyways. I don't know, I guess I understand, I'm just too lazy to switch CDs

Yeah, I'm sure one of the patches removes the requirement to have the CD in the drive to play. It amazes the number of games released that require the CD only to have that 'feature' removed in a later patch (Quake 3, etc.).

When I loaded the game the first time, I didn't need the CD anymore to play. Now that I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it, I need it in the drive all the time. Any thoughts?
