Any new news on price changes on PS2?

After Christmas everyone had thier panties in a bunch about the PS2 being marked down. Has anyone heard anything new?

Welcome, What?? I think as soon as someone hears ANYTHING official about a price drop on the PS2, there will be a thread here on that same day because it'll be such big video game news.

Fire bad!

It's easy to figure out when the price change for PS2 is going to be. Just take this month, and add one. So, this month you say:

"Rumor has it that Sony will lower the price on PS2 in February!"

Next month, you say:

"Rumor has it that Sony will lower the price on PS2 in March!"

Seriously, though. The PS2 is easily outselling the competition at the current price point. There's no reason for Sony to lower the price. I wouldn't expect it to happen earlier than November or December...if that.

i think it's more of an image thing right now. when you drop the price on a console, it says something about the life cycle of said console. i guess what i'm thinking is that if sony dropped the price on the PS2 at this point, it would be sort of like saying "sure, the x-box is faster, but the PS2 is cheaper". i think they'd rather say, "sure, the x-box is faster, but the PS2 has better games and a less cloudy future"...whether that's true or not, i think it's the image that they want to convey...at least right now.

besides, microsoft could easily afford to match any price drop in the PS2, and a cheaper X-box could equal more adopters...it sort of makes sense for sony to keep prices at a level where most people are going to buy one box...considering their current domination of the market.

i think pricing the PS2 between the X-box and Cube this summer might be a sound strategy though...still, i'm thinking september for some reason.

I think price is not such a key factor anymore, otherwise the Game Cube should have the highest selling figure.

I doubt there will even be a price drop this year, instead the PS2 will come bundled with something new, like hard drive/ethernet. That's my guess anyway.

that was actually one of the things discussed at last years E3. the talk was either a price drop to allow people to buy the hard drive/ethernet making them both still $299 together matching the price of the XBox. the second option was a bundle like the GT3 one still at a 299 price but including more stuff

of course, last year sales stayed high so no price drop materialized. I still think one of these options will happen this year.

I would think they'd drop the price of the PS1 first so until that happens I don't think we'll see a drop on the PS2.

A Best Buy employee told me that a price drop should happen sooner than expected with the release of the PS3 right around the corner
