XBOX Controller's cord

Is it just me or is everyone else have problems with the cords on the XBOX controller cords. They seem to kink up so easily and get twisted. I hate the cords on these things. What was Microsoft thinking when they made them. I know I try to roll them up neatly after each use, could imagine how much fun it would be to untwist these things when just thrown together. Just had to complain a little.

dvdsteve2000 01-13-02 08:30 PM

I haven't had any 'kinking' problems, and I love the cord!! My 2 year old accidently tripped over the cord while I was playing Madden today, and instead of the whole cord yanking out (causing me to panic in mid-play), the cord 'releases' itself from the connector and the game automatically paused.

Big fan of the cords here!!:)

I need Extendo Cords

Any one know if they are coming out with any? 9 ft still isn't enough.

And yes the cords seem to twist up all by themselves.

The quick release feature of the cord is a definite plus. Console doesn't even move when someone trips or pulls on the cord. Gotta give Microsoft a A+ for that one.

Cyberock 01-13-02 08:59 PM

I have to agree on the quick release, I'd give Microsoft an A+ on that one.

lordzeppelin 01-13-02 09:21 PM

No twisting here...and the release mechanism is nice too.

Flay 01-13-02 10:01 PM

No problems here either. I keep the cords wrapped around the controller also.

I do enjoy my 9.8 feet of cord. I can sit on my couch comfortably without ever having to move the xbox.

I have a problem with that auto-release ... freaking Dead or Alive 3. I was at the last boss and during my "Continue?" screen, it came out and the clock ran down to 0. Since I had never put those in, it took some figuring out to get it back in. ugh. Stupid DoA 3.

If the cord was 10' long I'd be able to use it on my couch, but it stops just short of me being able to lean back.

Centurion 01-14-02 12:47 AM

The only thing I would change about the controller cord is the length. You could never have a cord that is too long. ;)

Ditto on the 'inline release' feature of the cable.
I've already had an experience where this feature was utilized.

Unfortunately I doubt we will see controller extensions.

The controller interface is based on the USB standard. So 10ft is about the limit without a signal booster/repeater.

Unless someone releases something with a repeater that somehow draws powere form the source cable I doubt it will happen.

Also unfortuantely, wireless controllers are still a few months away.

i also need controller extension cables.. same here, to lean back on the couch. i can sit at the edge of the couch and play now, but can't lean back comfortably...

Did anyone else besides me try to remove the plastic shielding from the metal prong at the end of the cable when they first took it out of the box? :o

There's a surgical process out there called limb lengthening. Perhaps you should look into that. :)

Thankfully my couch is just at the right distance from the TV so I don't have to worry.

Hahaha.
I wanted to wait for someone to confess this first.

Why? Theres obviously a demand for them. Id buy four.

OT, I think they put the inline releases because they were worried if the box fell it could kill a child or pet. Or maybe it would land on you and youd have to chew your leg off to get out from under it. ;)

Naan 01-14-02 09:52 PM

The need is obviously there, but there may be some technology problems to overcome.

Trust me, everytime I'm near Fry's, Best Buy, or EB I check just in case, I'd buy 4 right now if they were available.

I've seen USB active extension cables, but I dunno how well they work.

I have problems with my cord. The plug to the release point sometimes doesn't seem to function. The controller itself works fine but it seems to have problems transfering the data that 4 inches.

Email Support at Xbox.com, Tell them what we need

Emailed them earlier today and got this response.

" Thank you for writing to Xbox support.
Currently there is no available extension cable for the Xbox Controller. However, we might do so in the future because we review all customer comments regularly and use them to help plan new improvements."

If everyone emails them maybe they will get the picture.

I'm currently working on a small auto winding reel. The current one that I'm looking at will hold 20ft. of cable easily.

The only problem will be in the rotary connector. I'm not sure if I can convert it to utilize the many conductors our controllers have.

If it works you'll be able to auto reel the cord back in for neat storage.

Or I may say F it and just wait for the wireless system to come out.

Kainan 01-16-02 01:54 PM

I think the main problem with the distance and them not wanting to extend it would be due to transferring data from the memory card more than the response to the controller. I mean, you are only carrying a signal of the controller response so I would think that the length could be extended without problems. It just doesn't make sense that you can hook 20' of freaking PS2 or GC controller cables together and play perfectly yet the Xbox has a problem with anything over 9.5'. Give me an extension and let me take my freaking chances. :)
