I think it's ok to bash other consoles, but only if you have owned it and are disatisfied with it, otherwise it's just pure trash talk.

Static Cling 10-23-03 10:54 PM

Thanks for your input, but we're not going to amend the rules just yet.

Ratchet-Tvd 10-24-03 02:38 PM

What do you mean?

namja 10-28-03 11:18 PM

It seems like we've been way too lax about enforcing this rule. The moderators can't read every thread. The enforcement of rules depend largely on your reports to moderators. Your help is greatly appreciated.

And FYI, accessory bashing and game bashing are not allowed either. That would fall more under thread crapping. Many of the posts in this Eye Toy thread are totally unacceptable. To call anything a POS or stupid will get you a warning/suspension/ban in the future.

Thanks Namja, that was much needed. To elaborate on the thread crapping point, and additional problem in the example Namja gave, is that thread was about sales of the Eyetoy in Europe. It was a thread to discuss the quality of the eyetoy and what not. Here's a great quote from Static Cling (another mod/admin) from the thread crap thread in DVD talk.

Also, discussion about whether or not a movie is good or a disc is a good purchase isn't forbidden. But if a thread is about a release date or disc specs, then it should stick to that topic. People who just want to talk about special features and such shouldn't have to wade through a back-and-forth about the film's quality... that discussion can take place in another thread.

The rule of thumb here is "put the right discussion in the right place."

That's about DVDs obviously, but the concept applies to games. Keep comments about the quality of a game in review/impression threads, not in threads asking for help, about release dates, sales figures etc.

Make sure to censor all posts and lock them so no debates can occur.

LuisL 12-19-03 01:06 AM

how are we supposed to get opinions with out saying we do or do not like something. hmmmmm very interesting. the 1st post also really seems, other than the console "nicknames", says not to flame other people, which i totally understand. if i state i don't like something is that bad? seems like modizism.

Static Cling 12-19-03 12:51 PM

There's a difference between saying "I don't like the fact that I have to buy memory cards for the PS2; the X-Box's hard drive is so much more convenient" and "LOLOLOLOL P$2 IS SUXXOR ALL P$2 PLAYERS R QUEER FANBOYS!"

The first post doesn't say anything about not being allowed to dislike something. You can pretty much state any opinion, for or against anything, as long as you are respectful of other members and don't do it in a way that is inflammatory.

namja 12-24-03 11:10 AM

Just a friendly reminder this holiday season to be nice on the forums. Referring to other members with derogatory names such as "idiot" or "stupid" or "fanboy" or the likes will get you suspended.

Enjoy.

I just got the best laugh reading this thread!!!

Josh H 12-29-03 02:21 PM

Just wanted to add a suggestion I mentioned elsewhere.

In addition to coming down on console bashers (which is great) I think there's another somewhat related problem that needs to be dealt with.

A lot of fights are started by console bashing, however, a lot are also started by people (console loyalists, fanboys whatever you want to call them) that attack anyone and any opinion that's not in support of their console/game of choice.

I think these types of posts need to be dealt with in the same way as bashing/warning posts, preferably an instant suspension with banning on subsequent offenses.

It all comes down to the fact that people need to learn to post their opinions intellegently (no console bashing, no stating opinion as fact etc.) and to respect the opinions of those who disagree with them (no jumping on some one, being rude, snide etc. when someone expressess a perfectly valid opinion that differs from your own).

cmon guys, we are talking about friggin consoles here ! Not people

they can't get their feelings hurt!

Here's how i see things

if someone posts something like "What has better graphic capabilities , Console A or Console B " then the pros and cons of both consoles should be allowed to be commented on

If a thread is about " Game A on console A" and someone comes in going on about how much better it is on console B, then that shouldn't be allowed, that's thread hijacking

Josh H 07-22-04 11:24 AM

The Pros and Cons type threads are allowed.

It's things like your second example that are the main issue that is banned in this thread. People bashing a console in a thread that's not discussing pros and cons and those types of things often lead to personal attacks. Lame as hell, but that's the way it's always been here. Though things seem to have gotten better in recent months.

Comparing and contrasting consoles is fine. People getting into pissing contests where the point isn't discussion, but to say "nyah nyah, your system sucks and mine rules" (and yes, some people are like that, amazingly enough) is what we're trying to avoid.

I guess it's that time of the year again. Just a friendly reminder this holiday season to be nice on the forums. Referring to other members with derogatory names such as "idiot" or "stupid" or "fanboy" or the likes will get you suspended. Same with any form of console bashing. If you have nothing positive to contribute to a thead, then please just stay out of it.

Enjoy. Happy Holidays.

Can we expand this 'console bashing' to include PCs? I'm tired off all the same negative spewage about PC gaming that pops up every few months.

Josh H 12-29-04 04:23 PM

I agree, PCs should be considered a console, and bashing of them not allowed other than in threads asking opinions on PC gaming (such as the I'm thinking of getting out of PC gaming thread) just like the rule for consoles.

Deadman31 02-26-05 06:09 PM

I don't see how anyone could possibly bash any of the consoles we have today. All of them are pretty good at doing what they are supposed to do which is keep us entertained. Not to mention the fact that you can get great games for dirt cheap prices(something that didnt always happen back in the day). Let's all be happy with what we have :)

No, but I believe referring to "Blu-Ray" as "Blu-Gay" DOES count, considering the PS3 is going to use Blu-Ray discs (as well as the phrase just being generally offensive).

would anyone do referals with me ? pm me ^^
