One place to consider buying an X-Box is Costco, if there's one near you and you don't mind the bundle. IIRC, it's a console with an extra controller, NFL Fever, and Oddworld for $399 or so. Costco has a LIFETIME satisfaction guarantee on just about everything, no extra charge, except on PC's, I believe. I've been able to take back electronics (like a CD-RW) 2 years later with a receipt and get cash back, no hassles. You may want to check with your local Costco, in case they've changed policies recently.

I seriously do not see how any place could stay in business for too long with a return policy like that.

So...where the hell are Costcos? None near me (deep south).

Costco is a warehouse/bulk-sales type store out here on the West Coast. I don't know how far east they are, but they DO have a website (www.costco.com). Unfortunately don't sell the console from the site. They stay in business because they don't really advertise the lifetime part, and they are ALWAYS packed, with long lines. However, their return lines are usually a little long, too.

I spoke with 1 employee who personally returned a washer about 8 years after he bought it, and another who talked about a someone returning a fridge 5 years later, I think. But, this was about 2 years ago, and perhaps their lifetime guarantee policies have changed. They said they wouldn't take something back that looked like you abused it, though (broken, smashed, etc.).

Actually I couldn't find my original sheet with the warranty info as well (I am notorious at throwing stuff away too quickly) & I went to www.xbox.com . They have a section going over the extended warranty. You can either order it over the net or call the 800# they give there (which is what I did). It is open 24/7. Let me know if you have trouble finding the section.

You should be fine. I think that if you buy it within the 90 days I think you are okay. I got mine after owning my Xbox for 5 weeks. They asked me for the date that I bought my Xbox. Before I answered, I suspiciously asked them if it mattered & the rep said it did not. It was just for their records.

(and you can always lie if necessary ;))

Just wanted to let you know my friend just had to get a 3rd Xbox. The 2 Xboxes, according to him , wouldnt turn on. he switched the power cord into different plugs , nothing. He bought the first 2 at Wal-Mart. Does Wal-Mart have a faulty batch of xboxes? He ended getting his $$ back and buying a new one at Target.
He had the Xbox sitting on top of the tv. He has it plugged in a power surge plug, and he plays it alot. He says it has good ventilation. He is just suprprised that it wouldnt turn on.
I've had my X-box way before he got his first. I've had no problem what so ever.
