Must have PS2 games?
I've managed to finish, or just about finish all the games I like that are currently out for my Gamecube, and I ran across a fantastic deal for a used PS2, so I went ahead and bought it. What are the games, either currently out or due out, that I shouldn't live without for my PS2? I ordered Jak & Dexter and FFX along with my console, and since I loved Crash and FF7, I have no doubt I'll like those two. I'm also planning on getting Drakan 2 later this month since I really enjoyed the first Drakan for the PC. What I don't like are racing games, fighting games, sports games, and first person shooters (tends to limit the field!). My favorites are platformers and 3rd person action games.
Suggestions?

I've got the following games, all of which I consider to be excellent.
Ace Combat 4
Gran Turismo 3
Metal Gear Solid 2
James Bond-Agent Under Fire
NHL 2002
NCAA Football 2002
Final Fantasy X
If any of these games are your type, they are must haves.

The PS2 has several A+ quality games.
Grand Theft Auto 3 (should be game of the year)
Metal Gear Solid 2
Final Fantasy X
Gran Turismo 3
Ace Combat 4
Tony Hawk 3
Madden 2002
Those are all A+ games in my book and there are several other very good games like Escape From Monkey Island, NBA Street, and FIFA 2002 to name a few.

Ok, I did some research on your suggestions, and Gran Turismo is a racing game, NCAA, NHL, SSX, Madden, and Tony Hawk are all sports games, and James Bond is a first person shooter, so those are definitely out. Metal Gear Solid 2 and Z.O.E. look pretty interesting though, so I'll definitely have to at least rent those one to check them out. From what I've seen of Grand Theft Auto 3, I have a feeling it will offend my feminine sensibilities. :-(
Have any of you played any of the following:
ICO
Devil May Cry
Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance
Klonoa 2
Soul Reaver 2
Rayman 2
Dark Cloud
If so, what did you think about them? IGN gave them really good reviews.

Dark Cloud is supposed to be nice. I bought it but have not had time to play it yet other than a few minutes at E3.
I do know a female friend of mine who really liked the game. rent it and give it a try
ICO is also supposed to be good although some have said it is short like was mentioned.
BG: Dark Alliance i bet is good since i love the PC games

Here's my opinions on the games I've played off your list, the ones crossed out are ones I haven't played yet.
ICO -excellent game you will love it (but rent it because you'll probably beat it in 2 days, great title to play once just for the experience)
Devil May Cry - This would be the one to buy out of your list, lots of fast paced action with a few puzzles. There's a lot of shooting and slashing in it though. My sister doesn't like shooters either but she seemed to like Devil May Cry (especially the hero, Dante ).
Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance
Klonoa 2 -Great colorful graphics, wonderful voicework, solid gameplay. Not too long, not too short, but there's replay value in collecting all the gems in each level, art galleries to unlock, etc. I liked it.
Soul Reaver 2
Rayman 2
Dark Cloud
If you like 2 player games or cooperative type 2 player games I'd also recommend The Adventures of Cookie and Cream. Its a lot of fun to play with another person but probably not by yourself.
I've had my PS2 since launch, but the only game I own are Metal Gear Solid 2 and Final Fantasy X. Also Harvest Moon: Save the Homeland is pretty interesting and addicting, I really like it. I'd recomend Jak but your already getting that .

I know you said that racing games aren't your type but you absolutely have to give a try to SSX tricky. I too have racing game but this one is so good and so diverse than it is more than meets the eyes, it is the best PS2 game I have played yet! (Try the showoff mode, it is great...) Just fot the sake of that sex thing, my wife played it and she loved it!
As for Baludur's gate, rent it before you buy it... I felt let down when I played this game, comparing it with the PC game... It just doesn't cut it...! Try SSX Tricky instead SSX Tricky

I have to agree that SSX Tricky is a great game. I avoid most sports games because I just can't get into them, usually the controls are a bit over my head, etc. I'm a better observer than participant, I guess. But SSXT is great because the characters all have interesting personalities, provided mostly by celebrity voices, you can practice and learn tricks before going into competition, and it takes quite a while to complete things and unlock all the bonus stuff. And the "DVD Special Features" are very cool. I borrowed Devil May Cry from a friend overnight, and it's a really good game, but I had a little trouble finding out what I was supposed to do at some points to progress, as the puzzles aren't completely obvious, much like the RE and Silent Hill games, but I'll probably pick it up soon, as I liked what I saw.

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance is great especially if you like Gauntlet (which I love). Two people can play at the same time and the story is good too. You can level up like most rpgs and buy new weapons and armor. I heard that if you play it all the way through it unlocks Gauntlet. I guess we shall see when my friend and I beat it.

Finishing Baldur's Gate unlocks 'gauntlet mode', but I don't think it has much to do with the original Gaunlet game. I'm not there yet (in the 3rd act though) so I can't say I've played the gauntlet yet. Maybe I'm wrong.

The ones in my collection I couldn't live without are:
SSX Tricky
MGS2
GTA3
GT3
FFX
Crazy Taxi
I'm very content with what I have now. I would like to add a FPS filled with gore when I need to release some tension. Now I just play a race in SSX and knock people down left and right.
There are no titles in the near future that I need to have. I have to catch up on what I have now.
