Problem unlocking Luigi in SSBM...
 

First of all, why isn't there an official Super Smash Brothers Melee thread?

Anyway, I have tried and tried again to unlock Luigi, but to no luck. I do everything that I'm supposed to do... Play through Adventure Mode as Mario, make sure 2 is the fourth digit to the right when I cross the flag on the first stage, fight and defeat Luigi and Peach, and beat Adventure mode. For some reason, Luigi never challenges me after this. Alot of times I breeze through it without ever dying or losing a continue, so on follow up tries, I tried that, but it didn't work. Is there something I'm missing out on, defective copy, what?

I'm not sure what you mean when you say fourth digit. I believe you're supposed to have the seconds end in 2. For example, 1 minute and 32 seconds.

If you are seeing the cutscene with Luigi bouncing off of Mario's head...I have no idea why you wouldn't be getting challenged

To straighten a few things out------you an play as any character ona ny difficulty setting. The seconds has to end in 2 like you said, and you have to beat Luigi in less than 45 seconds when he fights you with Peach, you can wait to beat Peach, but Luigi has to go in less than 45 seconds. After this, then he'll challenge you at the end of Adventure mode.

I had the same thing happen to me, and was I ever mad at the end when I couldn't challenge him.

Oh well, if the 45 second thing is true, then that must have been my problem.

Watch it: Unless you're really good, you don't stand much of a chance against him on that little center island, if you're like me (playing in Very Easy/Easy) it's easier and you have more room if you take the fight to one of the side islands. He fell off a cliff when he tried to follow me, so I didn't have to fight him, but all the times before that, he beat me quickly.
