Luigi playable in every level of Super Mario Advance 2 (Super Mario World)
And best of all he controls differently ala Super Mario Advance (SMB2).

Obviously, as a remake, this is very similar to the first version. The graphics are incredibly alike the older version, the only difference being that the lines are finer on the small screen. The map screen, down to little things like a fish jumping up as you cross the bridge in Donut Plains, the second area.
Starting the game you will see Mario taking his first steps into Dinosaur Land as before but he is joined by his younger brother Luigi. That’s right, Luigi is playable in the single player mode. Using the R button on the map screen toggles the two plumbers and you can choose which one to play through the level with. Luigi does control differently and can jump further and stay in the air for longer than Mario. He is a bit more difficult to control though. Think SMB 2 for the different attributes.
The levels are almost identical but differences include the placement of the five Yoshi coins. Most of these are no longer in the same place and can be trickier to pick up. Having played the SNES version countless times I whizzed through the levels.
The characters appear to jump higher and run a little faster than before although that is likely to be an effect of the additional horizontal space. The L shoulder button can scroll the screen backwards and R is now used to spin jump.
I didn’t have headphones with me but the music for the levels appears to be the same. One nice addition is that instead of the little tune that plays when you die, Mario and Luigi call “Oh no, mama mia!”.

This is the remake I want. The first SMA was Super Mario 2 which was not one of my favorites. Mario World was a game I really enjoyed and I can't wait to play it with Luigi.

I wonder when we can expect new 2d Mario (not Wario) Adventures. I hope this rehash is the last one we see.

I don't know if they will remake Super Metroid, but they are working on Metroid 4 for the GBA. Expected release is late next year. Same for Metroid Prime on GC...we shall see.

That is a simple concept, Josh, except in case you didn't notice, there hasn't been an announcement for an original Mario yet. It strikes me as lazy that Nintendo is dumping all their old games into the handheld. Personally I'd like to get the most out of mine, and not buying all these remakes prevents me from doing that. At least some of the 3rd parties are taking some initiative and releasing original stuff (Castlevania).
The original stuff on this system has really shined so far (and far outshined the old remakes) : Castlevania, Advance Wars, and Golden Sun.
Anyway, like I said, it just seems lazy to me, and basically cashing in on old franchises with putting in the bare minimum development. I wouldn't mind it if they put the remakes out once a month, but the slow pace makes it even worse. A better idea would be to put all the old Marios on one single game, that would be a much better value (so 1,2,3 on one game, then 3,4 on another for example, same with Zelda).
I hope Sony ends up making a handheld sooner than later.

It's not lazy it's smart. Besides it's not like EAD is wasting time doing them. Do you think Nintendo would waste their top developers, researchers, etc. on ports? I'm sure EAD is working on a new Mario game, and new Zelda game, etc. as we speak. Nintendo is very secretive about big first party games. Often you won't hear about them until 6 months to a year from release. Besides, what's wrong with the Wario game? It's new and fun as hell. But anyways many people here, and in general, love these ports, so there's no reason for them not to make them. I doubt a new Mario would top any of the old ones anyway, especially not for people like me who grew up on them.

I have to admit that I'm one who loves the Game Boy ports. I picked up Dragon Warrior 1&2, Dragon Warrior 3, Super Mario DX, Shadowgate, Deja Vu 1&2, and I'm getting Breath of Fire for Christmas.
I just don't mind playing my favorite NES and SNES games from my youth again on a handheld. Call me crazy, but I'm picking up SMA2 as soon as it comes out.
I even picked up The Final Fantasy Anthology and Chronicles on PSX. Great games are always worth playing again.

I do admit that Mario Kart is a great port, mainly because it has such good replay value. I guess I hope Nintendo makes good money off the ports and can move onto more original things in the future. One thing I liked about the Super Mario 2 port was it included the original Mario Bros. game as an extra. It looks like the new Mario won't have that. Overall I've been very happy with the system.
