Is anyone bothered by the fact in the multiplayer, you can be on the side of the Nazis? I know there wasn't anything they can really do and that *it* is a game..but somehow this really bothers me. Perhaps that three months spent in US History regarding the actions of this group has sunk into a deeper level but I couldn't even, in a game, pretend to be them.

...killing them, however, no problem!

Well there is a mod for Counterstrike called Day Of Defeat. You basically recreate D-Day. My buddy was really into it for awhile. He would play as the Germans some time just for the hell of it, he told me people were calling him nasty things like Jew-hater and such.

While I understand your point it is after all only a game. I don't really think there is anything wrong with it at this point in history. I mean serously, 50 years from now there might be a game where you can play multi-player as American vs Al Quida...I know it sounds crazy...but I bet you there will be....

but still, even 50 years from now what sane human being would want to play on the side of Bin-Laden and Al-Quaida??

People who were not alive during the actual events. I mean WWII is not as horrifying to people who did not live through it.

I mean I would never play on the side of Al-Quaida, I would rather shoot them through the skull...but I could play as the bad guy in Wolfenstien or DOD.

I mean, in all honesty, I'm not bothered that you can play as a nazi. its just one side of the spectrum. I am not nazi lover, but its just a game. just a game. :p

The thing with the terrorists, it was a little less defined. There is no definite/defined group of terrorists. If it was say Bin Laden and his group (I'm not going to try to spell it)....then yes, I'd be bothered by it.

There repuation is a lot more standing..echoing forever through history. To wear the swastika even as a fictional character (that is supposed to be me) in 1st person is a bit disturbing..

I may have to check again, but I do believe that the swastika is not used in multiplayer. The Wolfenstein logo is used instead.

I happily play both sides. I find Nazi Germany's war history to be very interesting. I like to see and use the weapons that they used, and view combat from their side. I don't follow the ideals that were set up by their government, feel the hate they did, or act out any of this in real life, and because of this I feel no problem with me playing on their side.

It is only a game to simulate combat situations, not to simulate the Nazi government.

Come on, guys, get real. Just because you play a group of people doesn't mean you follow their beliefs. It's a game, period. You're not living it, you're playing it.

The people that have a problem with this kind of thing are the same people that have a problem with Dungeons & Dragons, saying that it causes you to worship the devil.

Actually, IIRC - it's been awhile since I played, the terrorist teams are made up of real terrorist groups -- each group has it's own skin. -- ok. just tried looking through some sites and it looks as though some things have been renamed since the game originally came out. While it may not be the case now, several of the terrorist skins originally were real terrorist groups.

Its a game, its all it is.

It really is just a game and people need to remember that. If the focus of the game was a glorification of Nazi's then there might be an issue.

I've noticed that during the multiplayer game that the swastika is not prominently featured, instead it's the Wolfenstein eagle.
