How to use your US shenmue II save file
 

This came up in another thread here If you plan to play shenmue II in english you will need to get the UK version. However, by doing so your US save file is not compatible with UK shenmue II. You would have to start a new game or download a UK save file from someone. Surfing the 'net i found some instrustions on how to convert your US save file to UK this way you will have all the stuff you collected from the shenmue I. enjoy! you will need the following:
· A Dreamcast with an Internet connection
· DC Web Browser 2.0 or above
· A PC with an Internet connection
1) Using your DC, email your save to your PC.
2) On the PC download the following pieces of software:
· Hex Workshop:

· SHEN.VMI:

· VMS CRC:
http://www.franken.de/users/deco/myf...sh/vms_crc.zip
3) On your PC get the file from your email and download it.
4) Install Hex Workshop and open the VMU file in it.
5) Press Ctrl+G, select 'Hex', and enter 683. At offset 683 you'll
find 55 FA00 there. Change it to 45 0E01.
6) Press Ctrl+G again, select 'Hex', and enter 689. Offset 689 will
say 00. Change it to 58.
7) Save the file and outside Hex Workshop rename it SHEN.VMS (case
sensitive).
8) Open VMS_CRC and type "VMS_CRC SHEN.VMS".
9) Upload SHEN.VMS and SHEN.VMI (that you downloaded at the start)
to some webspace such as http://www.angelfire.com or
http://www.freewebspace.com, or you can even upload it to
http://www.booyaka.com.
10) On your DC go to the webspace you created and download the files
to your VMU.

You now have a PAL Shenmue cleared file!

sistasoulja you are my hero.....err.. heroine!!! Great find!! I can't even remember what toys and moves I learned on my original shenmue because they lock your quest when you finish it :).

I'm gonna have to go and try this out, I'm not so far yet that I can't start over, just the fact that I'll be continuing my old quest with the moves and toys I got makes it more cool to me, thanks a lot! :D

ok, there have been some issues getting your converted files back on your VMU. Here's what to do if you try to download the VMI and VMS file and it either says:invalid file or trys to display it
you need to create a .htaccess file and place it in the root directory of the website.
opened a DOS window and type EDIT .htaccess (dont forget the point before htaccess) a windows will appear...there you must write this lines:

addtype application/x-dreamcast-vms-info vmi
addtype application/x-dreamcast-vms vms

save the file with the name it already has ( .htaccess)
this will force the web to prompt for download not display
hope this helps if anyone has problems

for clarification you only need to download the .vmi file. But both files need to be on the website together in the same directory

THat's quite a hack! Weird, I thought this was going to be some easy conversion process, I guess Sega doesn't want people going into Shenmue II with tons of stuff. Would it make the game too easy though?

Got Shen II yesterday I would like to use my save file from I but I don't have a pc. Does anyone have a link to a UK save from Shenmue I prefereably a good one. Shen II starts you out with barely any yen and I had 30,000 some from the last game. I cannot get the link sistasoulja provided it says failed to download VMS file. Any help would be great.

I got that one to work. If you have web broswer 2.0 via the dreamcast email me your shenmue I save file, I'll convert it for you and post it on my site.

It is a bit long, but after you do it its not that bad. After a small dslexic problem i had, I now have a coverted shenmue I save file (thanks to TheFreak on this one)
