What are your stores stocked with now?
I went to a bunch in Portland and Salem. There are a mass of Gamecubes, plenty of PS2s and absolutely no X-boxes to be found. I was wondering if this is a regional thing, or if it is pretty wide spread.
So far I am a little suprised as how well the X box appears to be selling, and how many Game Cubes still seem to be on the shelves. I haven't bought any of them yet. I will buy them when the next Next Gen consoles come out. :D |
our stores still cant keep the ps2 or xbox on the shelf
occasionally, you will see the ps2.. but doesnt seem to be very often, still.. but the gamecube is overstocked on every shelf.. I dont think I have actually seen anyone buy one of these yet |
I went to the local video game store in NYC (upper east side. They were out of Gamecubes, not sure of X-Box and PS2's though.

*sigh*
Ok, the XBOX released 1/2 of what the GameCube did. In my area, PS2s are the dominant system, I've yet to see an XBOX or a GameCube on the shelf in my area(other than WalMart at 12midnight when I got my Cube) |
No Gamecube or XBOX units to be found here. However, PS2 systems seem to be easy to find.........

Target has PS2s and has 1 XBox.
Wal-Mart has nothing but GBA. Family Toy Warehouse has Gamecubes, PS2. Toys R Us has PS2. KayBee has Xbox and PS2. K-Mart has like 2 XBoxes and full stock PS2. |
Originally posted by Thunderball *sigh* Ok, the XBOX released 1/2 of what the GameCube did. Nintendo launched with 740,000. They sold more than 500,000 within the first week. They estimate 80% of their 665,000 (740,000 - 75,000 rental units) have sold out. That number is 532,000. If you are talking about the number of consoles now, you have to factor in the extra large second shipment that MS sent out before Thanksgiving of 150,000 to 200,000 units. Plus they sent out their regular shipment this week of 120,000. Nintendo did not send out a shipment the week of Thanksgiving due to the number of consoles already out there. They did ship out its second allotment this week of 125,000. So the numbers are now Nintendo's 865,000 to Microsoft's 670,000-720,000 units. |
Toys R Us and Best Buy here in the Twin Cities, the two or three I've been to, have neither the X-box or the GC. But the GC did release more than the X-box...

In L.A., there are still some Kay Bee's, Toys R Us, and Fry's Electronics that still have Gamecubes. XBOX, however, are all gone everywhere. PS2's continue to be available at just about any store that sells videogames.

I will look for another link on rueter's, but here is the article: CSFB Dishes Xbox Sales Estimates [11/28/01 3:35:31 PM ET] Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB) has released a report containing estimated sales results for what it termed “Xbox Week”—or as iemag.com interprets it, the seven days that began November 11. The firm is projecting that Microsoft Corp. moved 370,000 Xbox units in the first two days that the console appeared at retail, and that around 810,000 software units were also sold, for a launch tie-in ratio of 2.2. Of the 21 titles available over the first two days, Halo took the top sales spot selling over 176,000 units. Because of the number of Xbox bundles offered, Microsoft claimed approximately 57% of the Xbox software market, followed by Electronic Arts, Inc. (11%), Activision, Inc. (over 7%) and THQ Inc. and Take-Two Software, Inc. (under 1%). Microsoft is targeting 30% market share over the long term. Konami’s PlayStation 2 game Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty was released on November 13. CSFB estimates that 360,000 units of the game were sold that week, making it the top-selling overall videogame regardless of platform. Electronic Arts saw the biggest week-to-week sales increase among the companies that CSFB covers, buoyed by four Xbox releases and four Harry Potter games. Take Two’s Grand Theft Auto 3 continued to sell well, moving over 84,000 copies in Xbox Week, bumping it to an estimated 490,026 units moved in the fourth quarter. CSFB estimated that the title sold 205,000 units in its launch week in October. * Note—all actual sales numbers are CSFB estimates based on NPD TRST data. |
