Should I go for it???

a PS2 plus extra controller - $335
memory card - $35
S-video cable - $30
MSG2 - $50
Devil MC - $50

Total of $500 minus a 10% discount brings me to $450. Should I go for it???

What should I do:
a. Go for it!!
b. Wait until after Christmas sales in January and hope to get a better deal
c. Wait until more games are released that I'm interested in
d. Scrap the PS2 and wait for more games on either GC or Xbox

It's up to you. Nothing wrong with the PS2 and that seems like a good deal. If you really want it go for it.

Anthony Soprano 11-21-01 08:31 AM

What makes you think that any of that stuff would be for sale after the holidays? I really doubt that that would happen. All that for $450 is a great deal. Just hang on to your receipts and if they do get any cheaper, most stores will match themselves for 30 days.

Shuki 11-21-01 10:28 AM

Guess I just figured "everything" goes on sale after the holidays :) Or maybe just wishful thinking!

And darkside, really wanting something and actually dropping 500 bucks -eek- on it are two totally different things... aaarrgghh what to do...

So far two "go for it's" and zero anything else

I thought the PS2 was suppose to go down to 199 this month or next.

mmconhea 11-21-01 10:37 AM

the s-video cable seems pricey. Is that the moster cable version. I saw one at TRU from pelican for $12 yesterday.

Um...no. Sony has denied any price drops.

manufacturer is listed as Sony. If I can in fact get an s-video cable for $12 that knocks the total down to roughly $435...

The question is how bad do you want those games and what is coming out for that system. For $500, you can have any of the systems out there, with what you put as your requirements. Just take a look at what's available and get what you want. No need to listen to the fools on this board ;)

I don't think anything we said in this thread was foolish- now the other threads.....

If you are not sure, wait. It will still be there in a month. Maybe prices will drop post-Christmas. Why not wait and find out? That's exactly what I will be doing.

And shouldn't you be spending your money on friends and family for Christmas anyway?

You'll find the PS2 a very satisfying console. But....

I think you can do better on that price.

Shave $35 off and buy the console.

Shave $10 off and get a MadCatz memory.

Shave $15 off and get almost any other s-video cable.

That's $60, even if you buy the games at full retail. That's without any coupons or discounts, just by having fun looking around online.

Bottom line: Yes, get the PS2, but not as a bundle.
