Cheaper Official Xbox Mag subscription

I just would like potential Xbox owners to know that a 12-month subscription ordered through Amazon is $14.95. The standard OXM price listed in the ads in the sister Imagine magazines (like NextGen) is $24.95.

Thanks for the heads up , i was just going to subscribe with the $24 price. glad I caught your thread :)

heads up!!!!! This subscription more than likely DOES NOT INCLUDE the dvd demo disc each month!

That magazine is available in two versions: one with a demo disc and one without. This is only a deal if you're getting the one with the demo disc, so be careful. Just a head's up.

mr.snowmizer 11-12-01 01:25 PM

I was reluctant to post this at first, thinking there might not be a demo included.

But since I had never heard that there was going to be a "naked" edition of the magazine (just as Imagine's DC mag never had a demo-less version) and the Amazon review of the product mentions the demo disc, as well, I figured this was a staright forward deal.

Does anybody actually have a link to something that clearly indicates there are two versions of the magazine available?

EDIT: If you were to subscribe to OXM through Imagine media's site, there is only one choice for US residents: $24.95 for 12 issues with 12 discs. I've still yet to see the slightest indication that a demo-less version exists.

I emailed X-Bog Magazine @ Imagine customer service about this and this is what I got in reply:

"
You can order through them if you wish, but the CD is not available through
an independent sales agency.

If you don't want to risk it, the xbox should have a coupon inside the box for a free issue and free demo disk with 11 more disks and issues if you subscribe for $24.95.

Well that sucks. If that's the case then I'll just get a refund from Amazon as they advertise the disc. See the official Amazon.com editorial review below:

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
"Like Maxim, but about Xbox!" was clearly the mandate given to Mike Salmon, former editor-in-chief of PC Accelerator and current editor-in-chief of The Official Xbox Magazine. He got it half right: this gamer lifestyle magazine has the locker-room feel of Maxim but lacks Maxim's intelligent, tongue-in-cheek style. The result is something that looks like it was written by high-school sophomores. For example, a bio of Kasumi, a character in the game Dead or Alive 3, reads "A redhead with a difference--she can take on all comers. And if DoA 3 has the "[breast] bounce on/off" option, she'll definitely have a lot of comers." On the plus side, the game reviews and previews are informative and mostly free of bull. And despite the lame text, Official Xbox Magazine has an ace: each issue comes with a disc loaded with game demos of upcoming games and enhancements for current games. Until Microsoft gets the Xbox's online operation going, the disc is the only way to get these valuable features, which makes Xbox a must-have for any Xbox gamer. --Mike Fehlauer

I emailed Amazon to confirm if it will ship with the demo discs. I'll post here when I get a response.

FYI - Well i just received the following email from Amazon stating that the subscription they are selling does NOT include the discs:

Subject: Your Amazon.com Order (#999-9999999-9999999)

Greetings from Amazon.com. Thank you for your recent order for "The
Official Xbox Magazine."

It has come to our attention that some of our editorial reviews for
the magazine suggested that each monthly issue would include a disc.
Actually, the subscription for "The Official Xbox Magazine" we are
offering in our Magazine Subscriptions store does not include discs.
The content of the magazine itself, however, is exactly as we've
described in our advertisements.

We apologize for any disappointment this may have caused. If you have
any further questions about your subscription, please visit our Help
page for Magazine Subscriptions:

http://www.amazon.com/o/tg/browse/-/602288/

Again, we're terribly sorry for any inconvenience. Please know that we
value your business, and we hope to see you again
soon at Amazon.com.

Sincerely,
