What type of cable for digital audio in XBOX?

I'm going to be purchasing the pack that has the S-Video out (not the component). I believe it's called the Advanced Pack. Does this pack have coaxial out or optical (Toslink) out for digital audio?

neither...

doesn't come with either, just analog R/L.

you'll need to buy optical cable separately

I'm confused because www.xbox.com lists the Advanced A/V pack as having analog audio connections. The demo package seen on store shelves lists the item to have "digital or surround sound" audio connections. Furthermore, the package says "S-video cable included. Digital audio cable sold separately." This is from a Microsoft package not a generically created package.

I hope someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

The picture of the Hi Def AV pack says digital audio and from the picture it looks like a coaxial instead of toshlink. I think the game cube is going to be the same way which sucks because my Denon only has on coaxial digital in and my cable box is using it. Oh well.

Actually the Monster cables are Toslink and they eliminate the need to purchase Microsoft's High Def or Advanced A/V packs.
Here is a link to pictures of the video cables and the optical cable: XBOX Monster cables.

By the way, what model Denon do you have, if you don't mind me asking?

My Denon is 3801 and the toshlink makes me happy. Thanks for the info.

Bumping.....

So, does anyone already have the Advanced or High Def A/V pack by Microsoft? I just want to know if it supports coaxial or optical (Toslink) digital out?

I've got only two more days to buy an audio cable and I don't know which one the A/V pack uses.

So, in addition to the S-Video accessory package, I will have to go out and purchase a Toslink cable???

Yes, to the best of my knowledge. If you get the High-Def A/V pack it'll come with the appropriate video cables but composite audio cables. Likewise, if you get the Advanced A/V pack, you'll get the S-video cable with a pair of composite cables for your audio.

I wish someone could give me a definitive answer on which digital audio cable is supported so that I could purchase one tomorrow before the 15th.

There's a thread at AVS Forum where a guy has gotten his hands on an XBox.

link to thread

The timing was quite good, as I had just received the High-Def accessory pack from EBGames as part of my online pre-order. The accessory pack has a short cable that plugs into the back of the XBox, and exposes 1 stereo pair of audio connectors, 1 set of component video connectors, and 1 toslink digital audio connector.
He goes on to comment about how cool the 5.1 sound is in Halo. When a soldier is talking to him, he can spin around and hear the dialog pan around him 360 degrees.
