Tony Hawk 3 Cube?
Does anyone have any first hand info on how Tony Hawk 3 on Gamecube compares to the PS2 version? The PS2 version is out this week (and only $39 at Best Buy) but the Gamecube version is shipping at launch in 3 weeks.. Can't decide which one to get.

Here are the first impressions from Gamespot.
We try out Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 for the GameCube and bring you our initial impressions. At Nintendo's ongoing press event, GameSpot had the opportunity to sample Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 for the GameCube console. The game shares many of its features and options with the PlayStation 2 version of the game. All the modes from the PS2 version, including two-player multiplayer, are in the GameCube game. However, unlike the PS2 game, the GameCube version naturally does not support online multiplayer options. Although the controls using the GameCube pad take some getting used to, after some time, they become second nature. The various functions, including grinds, jumps, and tricks, are assigned to specific face buttons, and the skater can be controlled using either the D-pad or the analog stick. Interestingly, the game's control scheme doesn't make use of the C stick on the GameCube controller. Where the GameCube version truly separates itself from the PS2 game is in its visuals. The game already runs at a constant 60fps, and the levels load a little quicker than the PlayStation 2 version's. The character models are high-res, and there are vast amounts of texture detail in the game's environments and skaters. A variety of other visual touches, such as more realistic and detailed particle effects, distinguish the GameCube version of the game. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 for the GameCube is officially on schedule to be released this holiday season, and at this point, the game looks as though it is nearing completion. According to Activision, porting the game over from the PS2 and optimizing it for the GameCube was relatively painless. In fact, at one point, only two programmers at Neversoft were working on the port. GameSpot will have more on Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 for the GameCube in the coming weeks. There is also a $5.00 coupon for BestBuy on page 135 in the latest EGM magazine. That would make the PS2 version only $35 bucks.

It sounds like the difference won't be nearly as drastic as PSX - > DC, but it's enough for me to buy the GC one. I'm not concerned about the loss of shoulder buttons, since I played both of the previous ones on the DC. But I don't really care about playing it online, so if you are that could be the deciding factor. |
I'll be eagerly waiting for this game on the XBOX too.
It looks like a good multiplayer game. |
The PS2 version also runs at 60fps. That little blurb in the GC hands-on is a little misleading. Basically the graphics and textures are slightly better than the PS2 version...HOWEVER, the music and videos had to be cut out or cut down to fit on the smaller GC DVD disc. If this is important to you, you probably want the PS2 version.

Originally posted by joeblow69 Are you sure about this? All I remember reading was that the movies were rendered at a slightly lower resolution. I didn't hear anything was actually cut. |

Will the GameCube version have blood?
Not that it's a big deal for most people, but the previous two Tony Hawk Pro Skater games lacked blood in their N64 versions... will the GCN version also lack blood?
Maybe not a deciding factor, but still... -- fab |
blood?
its all about the gameplay whats the big deal |
For those of you who need your blood fix, this is straight from nintendo.com:
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 for the Nintendo GameCube is rated "T" (Teen - with blood, mild lyrics and suggestive themes) |
