What were your favorite COMMODORE 64 games?

I was really fond 'Law of the West' where you played this sherrif who could talk smack and shoot anyone, including the deputy. Anyone have any faves?

happypants 10-26-01 11:58 AM

Impossible Mission
Raid On Bungeling Bay
MULE
All the EA olympic games series
Ultima 3, 4, 5

Lampei 10-26-01 12:14 PM

Don't know if the British C64 had different games to the US ones, but my favorites were Strider, Operation Wolf, and Bad Dudes

AgtFox 10-26-01 12:32 PM

Archon and Summer and Winter Games by EA. I'm sure there's others, but those come to mind quickly.

Goblincat 10-26-01 12:32 PM

Wasteland
Might & Magic I & II
Bard's Tale I & II
Pool of Radiance
Curse of the Azure Bonds
Secret of the Silver Blades
Pools of Darkness
Hardball (the first one)
Bruce Lee
Impossible Mission
California Games
Racing Destruction
Archon
ArcticFox

I also had lots of fun with a cartridge, "Maze Master".

Outlaw 10-26-01 12:49 PM

I'm really glad someone asked this, I never had a commodore 64 (before my time) but I always wanted to see if I could find one really cheap and see how it is, these recommendations are very helpful!!

einTier 10-26-01 02:35 PM

Space Taxi
Montezuma's Revenge
Racing Destruction Set -- I'd love to see this one remade.
Beachhead II
Test Drive
Head over Heels

My mach 5 fast loader cartridge -- an essential.

Epyx games were consistently good, as were Electronic Arts and Accolade.

Aghama 10-26-01 03:00 PM

Burning Rubber
Montezuma's Revenge
Lode Runner
Archon
HHGTTG

<strike>Some really cool isometric EA game that I can't recall the name of.</strike>
Realm of Impossibility

DavePack 10-26-01 03:15 PM

First of all, having the Epyx FastLoad cartridge... :)

Choplifter
Bard's Tale
Raid on Bungeling Bay
Karateka
Lords of Conquest
M.U.L.E. (which is probably the one videogame I'd take to a deserted island if I could only take one)

I'm sure I'm forgetting a few, but those are the ones that stand out the most...

Nosebleed 10-26-01 04:09 PM

Bump 'n' Jump
Cobra
Pitfall
Rags To Riches

AmazingColossalPumaMan 10-26-01 05:08 PM

Mail Order Monsters was a sweet game. Now there's something they should remake or sequelize.

Centurion 10-26-01 05:14 PM

I loved the Bard's Tale! A classic RPG in my book.
I also enjoyed Sherwood Forest, a text base adventure game. But this was on the Apple II computers.

Anyone know a website where I can d'load these games?

Got a Dreamcast? They have a C64 emulator that they are close to releasing.

JNielsen 10-26-01 08:47 PM

All the Lucasarts games (Maniac Mansion, Zach McCracken & the Alien Mindbenders)

Most of the Infocom text adventures (Zork series, Hitchhikers Guide, etc...)

That game Airborne Rangers was cool too.

JuryDuty 10-27-01 12:39 AM

Bruce Lee
Infocom Adventures
and best of all... Impossible Mission!

If? They have a demo version out already. They need to make sure 95% of the games are fully functioning before a full release. I say within a month or so.

Hell, they got Atari, ColecoVision, Nintendo, Genesis, Neo Geo, Game Boy, Mame, Super Nintendo, Sega Master System, MSX, and Spectrum already :D

Anyone besides me have one of those Jiffy DOS upgrades? It upgraded the load time immensely...

I had this Mastertronics Water Polo game that took about 10 minutes to load the title page! :-(

Installed Jiffy Dos, and it went down to less than a minute! :-)

Anyone play Mars Saga by EA/Westwood?

einTier 10-29-01 12:00 AM

The old 1541 drives were sloooooow. So slow in fact, I can remember playing games over and over with my friends because we simply didn't want to wait for a new game to load. Selecting a game to play was not taken lightly.

A fast loader cartridge took the times just below bearable.

jhiter24 10-29-01 12:36 AM

Jordan vs Bird............gotta love the slam dunk contest and three point. Hell they still haven't been able to match this in a basketball game

Fanboy 10-29-01 08:50 AM

I LOVED Dr. J & Larry Bird Go One-on-One. What a great two player game. Best part was when you smashed the backboard, the janitor would come out and give you the finger (at least it looked like he did). Ha ha!

Also Impossible Mission, Space Taxi, Blue Max, Montezuma's Revenge, Mario Bros. and of course, Bruce Lee!

Btw, check this out for all you fans of the Brucemeister, Mark Rosten created a total remake of the original C64 Bruce Lee, featuring all the original (lack of) graphical splendor and SID sounds.

Go to Mark's site to download and play Bruce once again.

RaptorsFan 10-29-01 09:03 AM

Skate or Die
Kings of the Beach
4th and Inches
World Games (Cliff Jumping!!!)

Where can we get more info on this? Also, where do you get the games? I'd love to have something like this!

Thanks,

Sonicflood:)

Jeraden 10-29-01 09:26 AM

Pirates! - absolute best game
Demon Stalkers
Autoduel
Some Mindscape Soccer game - was incredibly complex and fun but forget the exact name, first one I played where you had seasons, could train players, trade, develop skills, etc. They had a hockey game too but it was too easy.
Gunship
Pools of Radiance
Mission Impossible 2
Karateka

I actually had a hard drive on my Commodore that I paid an ridiculous amount of money for. I can't remember if it was 20 meg or 40 meg. Yes, megs. Not gigs. :)

mikehunt 10-29-01 01:56 PM

I think there are companies that still make hardware for C64 users

Rokan 10-29-01 05:20 PM

Ahhhh... BRUCE LEE... seing that site brings back good memories, although it was on my Atari 800.

I remember playing a football game called Superbowl Sunday I think on my friends Commodore 64... I was mad they never brought it over to the Atari, but then, most games were that way... :(

jhiter24 10-29-01 08:17 PM

Dek

could you send some info my way?

mtucker 10-29-01 08:20 PM

I can't add anything to the ones mentioned above. I just wanted to say how much fun the C64 was. My first computer/game playing machine. I loved looking at the directory structure of the games I had and trying to figure out how everything worked.

Good times.

Original Desmond 10-29-01 09:47 PM

Bruce Lee
Impossible Mission
Raid over Moscow
International Football (soccer)

mikehunt 10-29-01 11:01 PM
