Age: 19.

next generation systems: game cube, dreamcast

other systems owned: nes, snes, psx, and a saturn (traded one dreamcast controller for it and 20 games, great trade).

I didn't buy an N64 due to the high prices for all of its games and prices never seemed to drop. Plus I heard Mother 3 was cancelled when I was deciding to get an N64 so I decided not to. I borrowed it before but really only liked it for its party games like the ones mentioned earlier to have pizza with friends and such. The PSX really didn't have that except for the occassional Resident Evil party staying up all nite playing until it is beaten and the Tekken 3 party but the N64 had it all. I might get one but I decided to get a Game Cube because of Nintendo's new status of making games that can bring people together and just play. Also, Resident Evil is going to be an exclusive. I might get the PS2 solely for Parappa the Rapper 2 (one of my all time favs).

BTW, I like the way the new Link looks and reminds me of when playing the original for the nintendo and wishing that my imagination would fully illustarate that world. Reminds me of Waking Life.

X-Box:25

I just like the fact that they have some killer adult-oriented games coming through.

I love video game violence and I'm tired of Nintendo rehashing Mario, Luigi and Zelda over & over & over.

It sucks that you have to pay an extra 30 bucks to get the DVD player but the internal technology of the BOX is top notch.

I haven't been in the video game market since Playstation 1 came out. X-Box is the first thing to excite me.

Halo is incredible-looking.

And my philosophy for years has been: Buy the sports games and rent most of the others.

I chose: PS2

Reason: Number of Games available.

Gamecube

I grew up on nintendo and their Mario and Zelda games, plus the fact that it was 100 bucks less then the other systems available helped

twikoff 01-01-02 01:24 PM

why i chose my console?

I refuse to pay 300 for a console.. so Im holding off on the xbox and ps2.. I have no interest in nintendo, so I wont be getting a gamecube

I have been really happy with my playstation.. but after 4-5 years, the laser is getting old and it doesnt play as well as it use to.. so I decided I wanted something else
so for christmas, I let my mother in law buy me one of the $50 dreamcasts from toysrus.. that way everyone took care of getting me the games, controllers, vmus, etc.. for christmas.. and I can buy the games cheap..

I dont play my console enough to put big money into it.. so the dreamcast seemed like a great option right now.

age: 35

system: Xbox

reasons: Halo, seemingly better hardware, broadband, hard drive, $250 credit at Sam Goody burning a hole in my pocket

Age: 27

Systems:

Dreamcast: No real reason, just had wanted it to compliment my PS system.

Playstation: Final Fantasy.

PS2: Again, FFX. Though I do like some of the other games I purchased. Simpon's Road Rage is fun and I have spent hours just seeing how much money I can make and trying to unlock all the starting points and cars.

Also, Grand Theft Auto 3. All I can say is OMG. I am having such a ball playing this game. I'm barely doing any of the missions as I'm having too much fun just driving/walking around seeing what trouble I can cause.

I plan on getting an XBox soon because I really want to play Halo.

I was pondering a Game Cube as well. But I don't know if I'd have the time/money for all these systems.

I'm going to sell off my Playstation when there is a definetly chip soloution for PS2. I have some japanese import games that I don't want to lose the ability to play.

'Bout time I did this...

Age: 26
Next Gen Consoles of Choice: Gamecube, PS2

Current or previously owned systems: Atari, NES, SNES, Playstation, Nintendo 64, Gameboy Advance

Gamecube Reason:
I grew up with Nintendo, and my favorite series of all time is Zelda. Fantastic first party games and support. Great price. Plus, well, it's a cute little console, and it fits perfectly into one of the nooks in my entertainment center. I knew I wanted one of these when they showed Zelda fighting Gannon at Spaceworld (too bad they cel-shaded him :( ) My only complaint is that the controller gives me cramps in my index fingers. I wish they had stuck with the N64 design.

PS2 Reason:
Fantastic catalog of games, lots of fun platform games, Final Fantasy, ability to use as a DVD player so I can ditch my crappy Shinsonic as a 2nd player, Drakan II.

Naan 01-08-02 04:36 PM

Xbox.

Bill Gates owns my soul.

Gallant Pig 01-08-02 04:39 PM

Age: 23

Systems: GCN, XBox

Reason:

I bought a Dreamcast when it was at its pinnacle. It had a great library of games and I enjoyed it. Then they announced that it would be no longer made. So decided to hold out until the newer systems came out and then I picked them both up. I may pick up the PS2 if it drops in price.

diacritic 01-08-02 05:48 PM

Age: 26

Console: Gamecube

Reason: Mostly for nostgalic reasons; I was brought up on the NES, and have not owned a console since then. I chose the GCN not only for my "dedication" to Nintendo, but to be able to play the latest incarnations of Mario, Zelda, etc. Also, it is a console that my wife really like playing as well; it is not all blood and tits (not that there is anything wrong with blood and tits, I enjoy them very much--but my wife does not). So far I am very pleased. I have finished three games: Pikmin, Luigi's Mansion, Star Wars, and I think Super Monkey Ball will keep me quite busy until Eternal Darkness is released.

Deadpool 10-18-02 07:40 AM

Age: 31

Console: X-Box (I also own a Dreamcast & GBA)

Reasons: The bundle made me do it :) I've been putting off getting a next gen system for a while now. I first said once the price drops, etc. I decided to take the plunge and went with X Box for a few reasons.

Games (now and those to come) - Halo, Steel Battalion, Soul Calibur 2, various NFL & NBA offerings from Sega & EA, Splinter Cell & Panzar Dragon.

5.1 audio - I could've went with any of the 3 systems, but 5.1 was another reason I went with X Box. Now I need to buy the advance AV pack :)

Buit in Broadband for online play - right now I don't even have DSL or cable modem, but will soon. Once I do...I'll go Live.

Built in Harddrive - no need for a memory card at this point. I may pick one up when I play at another location.

Lastblade 10-18-02 08:00 AM

I chose Neo Geo b/c it has the best fighting games and biggest cartridge ever made :p

Josh H 10-18-02 09:55 AM

Wow, this was resurrected from the dead. :D

I guess I can update my info, as I've since bought a PS2 to complement my Gamecube.

The reason I went with a PS2 instead of the X-box to complement my GC is simple -- the games.

There's several games out that I really want, and to top it off they're starting to drop to $19.99. There's also a steady flow of games coming out in the next few months that look great. In contrast, the X-box currently only has one game I'm dying to own (Halo) and only a couple have been announced that I'm really interested in.

Console: Atari 2600 - I like the retro look

Ha! J/K. I bought an xbox right after Thanksgiving last year. The reason? I had a 55" widescreen HDTV, 7.1 surround (Denon 4802 + Phase Tech speakers), and wireless broadband service. The xbox looks and sounds great on the system. I love the real-time surround sound, it makes a big difference on a lot of the games.

The games (or lack thereof) didn't play a part in my decision. There were plenty of great games for each of the systems and I couldn't play them all anyway. I wanted the best presentation for the games that I did play so I went with the xbox.

I never did believe in getting into the console wars. Each one had its strengths. I used to tell people who asked that if they wanted a lot of games (and some real bargains) to get the PS2, if they had kids to get the GameCube, and if they had a home theater type setup to go with the xbox. With xbox live coming up, I may have to add online play with broadband support to the xbox side.

I hope all the consoles continue to do well. Competition is good. It keeps the prices low and the quality high. Everybody wins.

Get Me Coffee 10-18-02 11:46 AM

Picked ......

GC: well because I like kiddy/colorful games. Mario, Zelda, and DK are awesome!

XBOX: I just had to play HALO!

Tamrok 10-18-02 01:52 PM

I got...

all three! :D

Xbox - it has the best long-term potential (and Bungie)

Gamecube - it has Miyamoto's games on it...

PS2 - because I can't stand not being able to play any game I want and like to waste money! ;)

Update

Consoles of Choice...

Nintendo GameCube
PS2

and coming to my system collection by Tuesday. Microsoft X-Box.

It took me a while to warm up to the XBox, and after seeing what is coming, and what already is I cant remain close minded, and shun off a system for no apparent reason(keep in ind I was VERY biased towards the X-Box). Besides Jet Set Radio Future looks amazing. :). I looked back on my previous post and I still stand by my original choice (GC) and I still stand by the reasons behind my choice. The new Zelda apeals very much to me, and Metroid Prime is just around the corner:D:D:D. I didnt get a PS2 until earlier this summer, ever since then I asked myself "Why didnt I get it sooner?" :p. Having all 3 consoles I think will be tough, seing as how the threee of them will have alike titles, but I feel if I stick to the system exclusives I wont have too hard a time shopping for new games.

NC-36 10-19-02 03:29 AM

Age (must I ? Oh well) : 39

Choice : PS2

EB is running a trade-in deal ($100 credit for a PSX or N64 and a handful of old games) that I couldn't refuse.

I originally considered using my N64 credit on the GC package deal (buy a GC, Mario & 251 mem card, get $50 coupon by mail to use on another game), but the sheer volume of $20 games that are all new to me coupled with the knowledge my original PSX served me well for SEVEN YEARS (sold it, too) and I could keep playing some old PSX favorites (Castlevania SOTN) on the PS2 closed the deal.

Now I can wait for GC to go sub-$100, and XBox to go sub-$150 and get Mario and Halo then :D

Age: 20

Consoles: PS2, GC

GC Reason: Nintendo games, a handful of good looking exclusives too.

PS2: Games! Fantastic variety, unparalled RPG selection, online gaming.

I would like an Xbox eventually as well, but that won't be for quite a long time methinks.

gr8fuldave 10-19-02 09:07 AM

Im 29, I bought the PS2 simply because you can use a sharkport on it for rosters and stuff. I play mainly football games (Madden, NCAA) and the ability to download pre-made rosters for NCAA was the primary reason. I also bought it for GTA, and the new GTA Vice City, since Sony has an exclusive with that game. Id love to have an X-Box, but the wife seems to think that paying bills and stuff is more important.

Mister Beefhead 10-19-02 10:32 PM

To this day, I try as hard as I can to convince anyone looking to buy a system to buy a Dreamcast. The way I see it, you get a whole lotta fun for less than $40, and by the time you're bored, the newer consoles will have dropped in price again.

I have to admit, I've only played a couple of games on Xbox or Gamecube. But I've a friend who was very happy with the trade of his Xbox for a DC and a pile of games, and another friend who professes system envy towards my DC (he has a GC).

So there you go.

young 10-19-02 10:44 PM

dreamcast? c'mon...

never had a playstation when i was younger - wanted one baaaadly... never had a nintendo either. (had a sega genesis for a short while - loved sonic, but that's it).

so when ps2 came out, and it was backwards compatible, it was a no brainer. got it the first week it came out and refused to sell it at a premium. love it to this day.

just got the xbox b/c it was a good deal.

no interest in the gamecube... yet. note that i don't really take sides about the platforms. it's definitely the games and the viability of the system. i do not want a system like Saturn or DC where they don't make it. my bet right now, is that the gamecube is the one that fails.

darkside 10-19-02 10:46 PM

Age:30

Consoles: GC, PS2, Xbox (I still have several older systems as well)

GameCube is mainly for the great exclusives, but I like using the Wavebird and it has become my main consoles for this reason. I've currently got 13 games on the GameCube.

PS2 is my RPG and of course Grand Theft Auto system. It just has so many more games than the competition that there is no way to live without one. I've currently got 10 games for the PS2.

Xbox is mainly for its exclusives. Panzer Dragoon Saga coming in January is reason enough to own one, but there are other games I'm looking forward to as well. I've had several Xbox games, but as of right now I only own 1.

I trade in and resell games quite a bit so I've had a lot more games for all three systems that I got tired of and sold.

BTW a year ago my plans were to get the PS2, I ended up getting the GameCube first and the PS2 right after. My wife is still mad about last holiday season.
