Was The Secret of Mana as good as I remember?
I'm just wondering if other people remember this SNES (Square?)game being as great as I thought it was.
I remember playing the sh!t out of it, and being bummed when it was finally over. Anyone else remember it? |
Was one of my favorite Square RPG's for the system!
|
It was pretty good, but I didn't like the sequel Legend of Mana on the Playstation.
|
Heck yes! I would dare say that it was my favorte SNES game!
|
Yes I too think SOM ruled!!! Haven't played it in ages though, back in the day I used to play it two player with my sister and it was a ton of fun. I still remember my jaw dropped when i saw the mode7 part of the intro where it zooms down and rotates the land, I didn't think that level of graphics were possible on the SNES, nor an rpg/action adventure game. If you liked SOM, the sequel Seiken Densetsu 3 was pretty good too (kind of hard though).
I liked Legend of Mana's music and graphics, but didn't care much for th story (what story, it had none). Another game like SOM is Brave Fencer Musashi for PSX which is worth trying. Hmm...you could also try pretty much any Zelda game which are similar to it too. Can't think of any others to recommend right now, but they don't come close to SOM ;). |
Yes great game!
|
Yes, it's a great game with some great music. I just played through it again a couple of months ago and it's still a lot of fun to play. My only complaint about it is that your friends (the girl and the sprite) get stuck on objects too easily while just walking. But it's still one of my favorite SNES games. If you haven't played it lately, play through it again. :)

Definately..this is one of the best games ever made...
LOVE IT! |
It was a fun game, but charging up your weapon was a PITA.
|
How cake was that final boss though? I mean I don't think I even took a hit last time I fought him. I was playing it like half a year ago, because I missed it so much. Really one of the greatest games ever IMHO.
|
I didn't even know that there were sequel(s?) to this game. It's a shame that they didn't live up to the original.

Awesome game. Used to play this with friends all the time. We wasted sooo much time on this game!
And there were 2 sequels to SOM. Well, 1 pseudo-sequel in Secret of Evermore, and the real sequel in Legend of Mana. Secret of Evermore didn't get a big release so not many people know about it... Actually I think it was completely developed in the US, but I forget. Actually I think Secret of Mana was a sequel or pseuo-sequel to Final Fantasy Adventure (Final Fantasy Gaiden in Japan if I'm not mistaken) on the GB (remember that?). |

Oh yeah, how could I have forgotten? >_<
I remember I downloaded the translation but never got a chance to play through it. Too many RPGs, too little time. I just recently bought Chrono Cross because of the Greatest Hits price reduction for it, and am working on that. Heh :) |
secret of evermore wasn't a sequel although it had the same engine. i really like the ability to control three characters. my siblings and i had a blast. the only thing i hate is that some of the weapon orbs are taken from treasure chests that enemies leave behind. me being a completion freak (I actually totally completed DK 64) hate that. i think i only got one orb from an enemy.
