Getting a new laptop -- what games are good?

I've been out of the PC gaming loop for some time.

Is The Sims anygood?
What else would you guys recommend?

Thanks in advance!

laptops aren't good for serious games like unreal tourn, etc.
games that i'd recommend for playing on a laptop is Starcraft :)

plus, there's always windows Solitare.

I have M.A.M.E. on my notebook, that keeps me occupied rather well. I also have a NES and a Genesis emulator running on it. Between those three systems and thousands of games I don't even bother with PC games anymore on my notebook. :)

So I can't play games on my laptop? Or is just not up-to-par?

Please explain.

Yeah you can play on the laptop, its just that for serious gamming you need to be on a pc. The graphics and sound cant compare to a pc. There is also the issue of hard drive space, so get plenty.

What are the specs for your laptop?

Toad 10-04-01 02:58 PM

Hmm...well let me know if these specs won't be good for games. All I really care about are games like The Sims and Deer Hunter....I'm certainly not a serious gamer.

AMD Duron
900 MHz
14.1" viewable
256 MB RAM
10.0 GB hd
8x DVD=ROM
128-bit AGP 2X graphisc with 3D hardware acceleration; composite TV-out support w/ external TV encoder
56 Kbps v.90 modem
10/100 ethernet
Win XP

As I said, I don't know a whole lot, but it is a wonderful system from what I've seen -- my boss has one, and its great.

Thanks for any insight!

I've been surprised by some laptops that really hold their own in the gaming arena. I'm an occasional PC gamer, but when I play on my PC I usually play

Max Payne (have yet to finish it)
Starcraft (multiplayer)
Counter Strike
ZSNES
MAME

Some of my friends are really addicted to the The Sims but I never really got into it, it just seemed boring to me. However if you like it then go for it, you will love it, its just not everyone's cup of tea. I'd recommend getting a demo first maybe to see how it runs on your comp and if it works then buy the full. I'm sure you'll be able to get those to run ok on your comp. A lot of these games aren't that expensive anymore like Starcraft so you should be able to get them cheap at compuexpert or amazon.com.

Games will suck battery power like nobody's business.

The Sims
Starcraft
Diablo I and II

Toad 10-05-01 07:57 AM

What about Black and White? I heard a lot of things about it, but have never seen it.

I also wanted to pick up one of those Deer Hunter-like games. My friend used to have one ... don't know if it was Deer Hunter or Big Game Hunter ... but I loved it.

I looked for it last night, but couldn't find it :(

some games I don't think you'll be able to load up since your laptop wont have a power enough graphics card to load up.
And even if you do get it to power up, it'll be very slow as your frame rate will be unbearable. Now these are the intensive 3D games. I'd rather stick with the desktop pc. Laptops are generally slower than pcs since they have less power to burn.

I run nhl 2001 and madden 2001 on my laptop at 800 x 600, works fine. I also run Mame, Virtua Fighter 2, Jedi Knight, X-Wing Alliance, Emperor the Battle for Dune...

My laptop is 750 mhz with 128 megs of Ram and it runs games pretty damn good.

Age of Empires II works great on mine, provided I have a mouse attached. I downloaded a hacked executable so I don't have to carry around the cd with me.
