Damn. i must have been stuck on 1-1 of crazy taxi a bit to long. i missed what day Blue shift came out. sooo anyone pick it up yet and check out how the latest expansion to Half-life is?
|
Damn, it's out already? I'll go get it and let you know. :D
|
If you alreayd have Opposing Force, it's not worth getting, simply because it's too short, and there's not enough new to warrent it's price.
It's a good deal if you don't have Opposing Force yet. |

I'm a Half-life fan. to the blood. anyhow. the game revolves more on puzzles then on actual combat. which would take a bit away from it for me. the battles are intense and all, and the AI seemed to be upgraded a bit since they are now flanking and actually acting more battle frenzy. but it does lack something.
I already owned Opposing forces, and i bought it. well simply because i love the half-life series. but its hard to recommand it. theres an offer on it if you already own OF then you get 10 bucks back. so you are really paying 19.99 for a new story line. also, it seems like your spending a whole lot more time in the dark and underground then anything else. Also, added is since your a security officer, your Armor is just that Armor. so it can't be recharged with the H.E.V. you have to find some other dead security gaurd and get his. in some cases, they give you to much armor when not doing anything and to little when you are in a heat of combat. no new weapons and it seems like they just wanted to tell what the whole event was like to the security officer. but i must say there is some tied in themes with freeman compared to OF's two second flash of freeman. |
The official site mentions a 10 dollar rebate for owners of Opposing force. Best Buy has it this weekend for 19.99, and you get a copy of gunman chronicles for free. So net price would be 9.99 for the two games (given that you own OF)
Unfortunatly i ordered mine from amazon with a ten off promo, but sweet talked a Customer service rep into free shipping :) So i'm paying 19.99 .. Unfortunatly no free gunman chronicales for me :( Anyone know if its any good?? |
Thanks for the tip about Best Buy. I could not bring myself to buying that game for $20+ since I kept hearing that it was too short and contained too little new stuff. but for $9.99 I might give it a try. I love the Half-Life storyline.
|
My goodness.. I just beat it.. and to think, i bought the game just yesterday..
then again, i love Half-life so i spent most of the two nigths just playing it. this one involves more puzzles then the first. the combats are nice, but stretched out between LOOOOONG walks in the dark from place to place. ok, here is the run down. consider this as how long the game is. the game starts off in blue shift as the security gaurd that freeman passes up in HALF-LIFE as he is in the tram (the security officer banging on the door and having tech. difficulty trying to get in the door as freeman passes by in the tram) you hear mention of freeman throughout the game. and here is the full extent of how long the game is.. Spoiler:
so if you compare the times. blue shift is not that long, but it is well worth it if your a HALF-LIFE fan. |
Gunman Chronicals... well, it's fairly good. Nothing great, but fairly good. If we had Best Buys up here I'd probably do that deal.
Anyone who doesn't own Opposing Force, Blue Shift or Gunman Chronicals could possibly be getting one of the best deals ever with that. :) |
What about the HD Pack (supposed to upgrade textures and models)? Any good?
|

yeah no kidding, and with no "real" boss other then some attacking soliders. its not to long of a game. but it is fun. so i would say get a cracked version. because it is worth a play atleast once. as for the HD pack, yes, that is a nice feature as it does add to the effects of the original game.
|
It's 40 bucks up here. Ouch.
The Half Life pack (Half Life, Opposing Force, TFC) is the same price... hehe... but it has a 10 dollar mail in rebate. Half Life Platinum is 60 and includes only one more disc, of something you can download anyways... But of course, people were buying the Plantinum one without doing research first... |

Okay i just got mine, and i'm trying to figure out if its worth opening. I could still take it to UPS and refuse shipment because i havn't opened the shipping box, and then go to best buy and get Gunman chronicles with it for the exact same price. But is Gunman chronicles really worth all that hassle??
|
Maybe download the Gunman Chronicals demo and base your choice on that.
|
Gunman chronicles is not bad, kinda weird actually, but for 10 bucks a piece i would send the box back and go to Best buy this weekend
|
OKAY.. here we go....
Went to best buy And bought BlueShift, and got Gunman Chronicles free. (Shipping Back the one I got from Amazon using prepaid slip tomorrow.) Total 19.99 Filled out and mailed the Opposing Force Rebate. Minus 10.00 Also printed out at the register was a Rebate slip. A free game with the purchase of Gunman Chronicles! haha. All you have to pay is 4.95 shipping and handling. You get to choose from one of five titles. -Hoyle Solitaire -You Don't Know Jack -Deer Avenger -3D Ultra Cool Pool -SWAT 2 So grand total, For 2 games retailing at 69.98, I paid just $9.99. :) Not bad at all. Hey, help me out guys. Which one of the free titles do I want. I'm sort of indifferent. Any suggestions appreciated! :) [Edited by ClarkKentKY on 06-19-01 at 07:34 PM] |
well enough about the deals. what did you guys think of the game? all 20 minutes of it?
|
Hahaha. Well i expected as much. I'm only five minutes into it but i figured it woudl be the weakest of the series. I like the idea of HalfLIfe: black ops, much better than this... I mean whats next.. HalfLife: Scientist. Booooo. Why is it that when i play TFC and CS i'm fine.. but when i play HL or OP or now BS i get a headache!?!? Its frustrating.

Why is it that when i play TFC and CS i'm fine.. but when i play HL or OP or now BS i get a headache!?!? Its frustrating. I think we can look forward to "Half-life: Janitor" before Black ops :p I do agree. it is the weakest of the series. they tried to hard to make it more puzzle oriented like the original. but they didn't remember that the puzzles were only part of what made the first so great. they didn't add enough AI competetion in the form of the soliders. you only get a hand full of encounters with them. and over all more with the aliens. and it is really pointless to see the Man in the black suit if your not going to get some sort of choice ending. one thing i hated about OF, the fact that the ending left you stuck there. in this one, the final shot is "status: Out of range" exactly what does that mean? your just a janitor. I would like to see another point of view. or the next day or hell, just a continued story of Freeman as a Man in suit character or something. blue shift. the concept of paying as the security gaurd didn't really add much in the long run, your clearence pass didn't get you to anywhere real useful. just wait intill "Half-life: aliens" :p the story wasn't really ended with right? freeman turned agent Spoiler:

yeah yeah yeah.. you know what i mean.. :) The old gray haired guys... The object of the game is to whine people to death and yell when aliens attack you.
|
While it only took me about 5 to 6 hours to complete the game, I thought it was great while it lasted. And the extra detail in the HD pack is awesome! It makes the game SO much better. (If you take the time to compare the graphics differences between the original and how it looks with the HD pack, you'll likely be pleasantly surprised!) In my book, it was worth the money.

As for continuiung the Half-Life saga, wait until the sequel.
Also, for the person that said they should make a Half-Life game about what happens the next day, you might like to know that Half-Life takes place in about the period of a week or two already. |
and in that two week time period freeman, calhoun, or shephard need no sleep, no food, no water :P
all three expensaions are taken place in the same time period. only calhoun's seems to be a lot shorter. the end result.. Sephard is neutralized Freeman is an agent (or in one hell of a battle) calhoun is "out of range" Now as for that "next day" comment. refering to.. well what happens next? Sephard might be in a zone, but they did say they would get him when they need him/find something for him to do. so there is plenty of openings for more on this. |

I've only been able to play it for a hour or so. So far, you're right, more puzzle oriented, and lots of walking around in the dark. I like how the puzzles made you think a little more than the original at least the 'coolant/barrel' one. And the TNT one had me thinking a bit. I'd appreciate more action though. The HD pack is nice. You can definitely tell the difference in the upgraded graphics. |

I managed to get this deal at Best Buy - It ended up being free when I returned another game (they even gave me $10.77 credit) and they were out of Gunman (which I already own anyway) but were kind enough to write me a raincheck (even though it clearly states "No Rainchecks - 10 per store". I'll be heading over to Wal-Mart once they get it in over at Best Buy.
I played through the game and finished it in about 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Really stupid way to end it. It was decent though - They shouldn't try to charge $29 for something that should be available as a free download. Counterstrike is worth that kind of money, but it's good that they still offer it free (been playing since beta 3 and beta 5.whatever). The adventure that came free - USS Darkstar (or something) - was better than Blue Shift I think. man finished it last night. WAYYYYYYYYYYY to short. I feel kinda jipped, even though it only cost me 10. Maybe gunman will be longer..
|
Wow this game was sooooo easy! Played it under hard and only had to reload 2 times.
Short, easy, but a nice addition to the Half-Life story line IMO. |

|
