Which is the best light to get???
The GBC worm light had annoying glare of the bulb, don't think they resolved that for GBA. Light Shield Advance also looks like it would have a glare. Cobra Advance uses a mirror to reflect the light and remove the glare from the bulb, supposedly. I bought the last two but haven't opened the packages yet. Want to get everyones's opinion first. I'm leaning towards the Cobra.... |
i like the flip light the most, the worm light sucks..
did any 1 get the cobra light or the cobra ac adpateer from Best buy??is the ac adpater any good??? What GBA games r worth getting?? 1. tony hawk 2 2. rayman 3. castlevania 4. supermario advance 5. f-zero those r pretty xpensives. |
I just bought a Mad Catz light and magnifier like this one (just for the GBA)
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0...S.MZZZZZZZ.gif ...and I must say, it SUCKS ASS! It may work well if I'm in a room with no windows and the are off, but otherwise it doesn't enable me to see the screen very well at all. Still too dim, along with annoying reflections of the light and myself. Although, I'm not really sure how it may stack up against other accessories that would do the same thing. Anyone else care to give some reviews of the accessories? I wish I could have heard a thing or two about the lights before I bought this one. |
I had one of those magnifier/light thingies for the original GB, and it sucked ass. Good idea, that just doesn't work worth crap.
|
Ok, well I have the worm light as well and realized that it totally sux.
I'd really like to get a new light tomorrow, but I'd like to know which one is the one to get. I don't want to get something that's gonna suck up my batteries big time, but I don't want to have to keep replacing AA batteries for the light either. there HAS to be some reviews out there |
The Cobra lights sucks too, non-glare my A** you see
the darn bulb reflected. But the Light Shield Advance is relatively nice. Not only does it close nicely and cover the entire screen, but if you angle it just right, you get "decent" lighting and no bulb staring back at you. |
Over at the IGN gaming boards (probably the most active gaming boards on the web), the consensus seems to be that Pelican's LightSheild is the best light available for the GBA. PlanetGamecube has a nice review of the LightShield.
|
I spend $100 on this GBA and the thing practically requires a light to work. I can't see Tony Hawk Pro Scater at all without being in the direct sunlight....And because the screen is parallel to the plastic window, you can't get decent light without it reflecting back at your retina. What a poor design. At least they could have made the window glare-resistant.
It makes the whole gameboy a hassle to play. "A hassle to play" If that's not a major defect for a gaming system, then I don't know what it. -My 2 cents. |
yeah, it really sucks that it's so damn hard to see... But direct sunlight, and a plain old desklamp is what i've been using to play Castlevania...it's awesome... but the Magnifing light sucks, and the worm light is alright, but not great...
|
I'm thinking some people may have defective GBA units. I own both Tony Hawk and Castlevania and I don't have a problem playing these games in normal room light.

the best light imho is the lightboy advance by nintendo, which has it own battery pak so it won't drain your system battery..

also the light shield advanced has an on off switch and the intensity of the light can be adjusted which in turn adjusts how much power it sucks up from your batteries.
|
I got a GlowGuard, think I'll keep it until something better comes out. It seems to work alright.
|
Which is better, the Glowguard or the Pelican light shield? Am thinking also of getting a light for my GBA but it seems that all the others (especially the wormlight)have bad reviews.
|
pelican definitely, but i am looking forward to this........

The worm light sucks and the glare is always on the screen. The Pelican Light Shield is much better, but still not perfect. With it you can at least angle it so that the glare is off the top of the screen, on the black part, and still get decent lighting. That said I still think the screen is pretty good and you only need a light if you aren't sitting next to a lamp, or under a good overhead light.

well I got the GBA and Castlevainia this weekend and I agree this game is way to dark! You have to have a light to play it. I was in the car and had to hold the game at about 45 degree angle to even make out the game. I guess I will buy a light this week.

You should go to the website to check it out, they were working on getting the light even across the whole screen. Unfortunately there was a death in the family, so they aren't focusing on this anymore. |
I'm glad everyone else agrees that the Worm Light sucks. It seemed like the consensus was that it was great! spectacular! and other crap. So I bought one for a long trip and returned it while on the road. It was horrible. I didn't have the package anymore, but dammit, I made them take that back and give me a full refund!

I recommend the Light Shield Advance and making the mod on it. Here's a link for more info http://www.gbalight.com I'm not affiliated with gbalight.com, I just found it very useful.
