Hello all;

I may be buying a widescreen TV this fall. Do any of use use a widescreen TV for your videogames?

Should I have anything to worry about?

I use a widescreen TV (Toshiba 40") to play videogames.

It's a projection TV, so I take frequent breaks because of the whole burn-in thing.

I usually play games in either the standard mode (gray bars on the sides) or in one of the stretch/zoom modes. Some games look ok stretched/zoomed, others do not.

Plus, some games have 16x9 modes... I know Toy Commander (DC) and Rayman 2 (DC) do. What other games do? Is there a list on the net somewhere?

Garrett

How long do you play before you take a break?

I know that all PS2 EA Sports games have a widescreen mode.

I usually try to take a break (bathroom, food/drink, etc.) with the TV off for at least a couple of minutes every hour or so. I've played for over two hours straight before and have had no problems.

Burn-in is not a problem on a rear projection tv as long as you turn down the contrast to its proper level by using "video essentials" or "avia" discs. Either one of these will allow you to set up your tv to the right settings for contrast, brightness, sharpness, color, and tint.. Most video rental stores will have these.

PERFECT DARK, GOLDENEYE, JET FORCE GEMENI, and TUROK 2 all have widescreen modes (Goldeneye and Perfect Dark offer 16:9 modes as well).

RaptorsFan ... Be aware that most Gun games DO NOT work with Widescreen televisions. One of my friends had bought and returned 3 different Widescreen televisions (Varrying from HDTV, HDTV Compatible, and Plasma) because gun games would not work with them. He also had some problems with Animated cutscenes in video games (Such as Lunar 1 & 2, Silpheed, etc..), where the resolution would begin to unravel. It wasn't just simple bad compression by the game developer. It could be the specific brands (Pioneer, Sharp, & Sony - which I doubt), but he ended up hauling his Dreamcast & PSX down to the store, hooked up his systems to the floor model and tried it out. He ended up settling on the Sony 36" WEGA XBR. Although not legit widescreen, he is extremely happy with his TV. I own the same one and love it.
