I was wondering if there is a maximum output resolution for PS2, GameCube and XBox? Does anyone know what these numbers are? Does it vary by game? If it does, then what is the absolute maximum that these systems can produce?
I'm just curious how much better these systems would be on an HDTV. Thanks. |
The game systems would have to support HDTV output for the picture to look better. I know the X-Box does, but not sure on PS2 & Gamecube.

Both GameCube and XBox are supposed to support increased resolution through a component video output for HDTV.
Dreamcast and PS2 require a VGA Box converter to output a higher resolution signal. Even if the hardware supports higher resolutions, the bigger question is about software support, which won't be known until games start to ship. On the Dreamcast, the VGA box doesn't work with a lot of the games, only titles that are written to support the increased resolution. (Soul Caliber looks amazing in hi-res) |
Does anyone know the actual resolution that they output??

IIRC, Xbox will support at least up to 1200x1600 and is VGA compatible out of the box.
