WOULD YOU NEED A SPECIAL CHIP TO PLAY IMPORT GAMES FOR THE PS2

Jackskeleton 04-19-01 10:25 PM

the PS2 chip is being modified constantly. most of them need you to some how trick out the loader so you can opening it as the disc spins.
I would hold off on a PS2 chip just now because there will be better ones coming out soon.

Might aswell save your time from all the sodering.

At this point, none of the PS2 mod options will play original PS2 imports, only copies. Since most new import PS2 games are being released on DVD, copies aren't an option.

So, the only way to play all PS2 imports at this time is to buy an import PS2 system.

Also, in addition to the import sites listed on the other thread, check out:

http://www.videogamedepot.com
--> daily news updates.

http://www.buyrite.net
--> best prices, but high shipping on 1 or 2 items.

http://www.cart-mart.com
--> import games, toys, anime

I recommend http://www.ncsx.com

AS for chipping:

The PSOne. A very reliable chip is out..but it has a tendency to fry your board after a year or two. Doesn't always happen, but it is a risk.

The Dreamcast. All you need is either a *cough*Utopia boot disk*cough* or a Gameshark and you can play imports of any game you purchase.

The N64: All that's needed is either a cart adapter(about $10) OR you can just chip off the back of the cartridge.

The PS2: There are NO reliable chips for this, due to the DVD format. I'm sure there will eventually be one, but for now the only real way to play imports is buy a Japanese PS2.

There ya go.
