You may get more responses in the Video Game Forum. I would guess most of them would have heard of counterstrike.

CS is a mod for the first person shooter: Half-Life.

Olie, I've never tried CS, my old computer didn't run it well. I just got my new computer and haven't bothered to install half-life again.

Sorry bro I was trying to respond but a funny thing happened to me over the weekend.

Olie (and others) is it hard to pick up on? I actually kind of avoided this one because I was afraid that I would seriously hinder my team (as this game emphasizes teamplay) in my newbie days.

I'd rather play Firearms, but I guess i could sink down to CounterStrike level for a game of two. ;) Let me know if you ever get a game together.

Counter-strike is actually great for beginners because of the simplicity - you run around and shoot each other. No crazy guns, no power-ups, no inviso-rays. There is some team play but it's mostly of the "you go left, I'll go right" variety.

I'd recommend the de_dust map for beginners. Nice and simple.

Hey, I might be up for that too (the Counter Strike, not the other thing), even thought my DSL went down, and I'm stuck on dial-up. I probably suck, though (at Counter Strike, not the other thing)

Well guys ill try and set one up this weekend, see how many gamers we have. Just let me know if interestred. I suck at CS and I am even worse in QuakeIII. But its all for fun. Ill let you have the Ip When i have it running

Don't get me started on CS baby... :) I've been playing CS for what seems to be an eternity, I got all my roommates hooked on it as well, and they've been playing for months!

I normally play on the HomeLAN servers, and unfortunately there are a lot of cheaters out there in CS so beware...

Yea i know about the cheating..lol kep in mind this will be for fun, bragging rights and such. I hope alot of newbies come. Not fun getting fragged your first game by someone who has been playing forever ;)

what's the specs on the server system? (including connection type and bandwidth)

Its nothing fancy my home pc. its on a cable modem. its a duron 750 with 320mb ram. I think its ok, i dont think we are going to have that many players

cool. i just ask because i think your system specs and upload speed will directly determine the max number of players allowable. somethings there are workarounds (for example, you set max players to higher than 4 but it still defaults back to 4, there is a possible fix for that). let us know if there's any trouble.

Hey thatr would be great if you could send me the fix. To be honest i dont know how many players im going to be able to have. I was shooting for about 8

best thing to do is just try setting it up first with maxplayers #(whatever you feel your system can handle). If setting it at 8 doesn't work you have to add a variable to your shortcut target line. that variable is heapsize (which allocates a ram size that you specify for the game)

so, you want 32MB dedicated to the game? it would be

-heapsize 32000

128 MB to the game?

-heapsize 128000

this is what the target line will look like (if your cstrike folder is in c:\sierra:

c:\sierra\half life\cstrike\hl.exe -game cstrike -heapsize 128000

there are other variables you can mess with also but i have to leave work now. talk to you later :D
