Drawn from the 'before my hack touch turned everything into dung' era of Chris Carter's The X-Files:
(All third season) Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose, Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space', Pusher.
Drawn from the 'my sucky show was renewed so I give up; you guys fix it' year of Millennium (to be followed by the 'it was renewed AGAIN? let me ruin it again' final season):
(All second season, terrific episodes that few watched, can't blame them after the rut of the first season): The Curse of Frank Black (Halloween), Midnight of the Century (Christmas), Luminary (a moving fictionalization of Chris McCandless' story as told in the book Into The Wild)
Unfortunately this thread is about two weeks too late. FX just aired all three of these Millennium episodes...d'oh. For those who think Millennium usually sucked, let me simply say that none of these involve chasing a murderer, profiling a serial killer, or investigating crimes. The Halloween episode involves temptation and is quite spooky. The Christmas episode deals with reconciliation with estranged family members. The third is the story of the life and death of a young man in Alaskan wilderness. All are highly recommended viewing!
