The truly rare ones are the ones when the show first began on a small channel in this area. Everything went downhill when Comedy Central got ahold of it.

hey maybe a diehard fan can answer this,

i saw one a few years ago, not sure which host, but the movie opened with a flag on the moon. so throughout the movie they keep saying, "flag on the moon, bill" "flag on the moon, bob" etc, they refrenced the flag on the moon thing quite alot. i'd like to get the dvd of it, if it's out or tape it off tv, but i don't know the show number or what the movie was called. anyone know?

thanks.

I believe that's Red Zone Cuba. Which slated for a DVD release in March.

For those wondering about the legal details about the episodes and why even though Sci-Fi renewed MST3K into 2002 we're only going to be seeing the same old episodes over and over again...there's many detailed explanations at MST3K Info Site

I'm just happy I have "Soultaker" (return of Joel, last episode of MST3K) in my Tivo for ever and ever and ever as that one will probably never make it to dvd

Soooooooooooooouuuullllllltaaaaaker! What I've just recently started doing is archiving my MST3K and Sports Night episodes to VHS tapes. They just started re-running season 2 of Sports Night about a week ago, so it was a perfect time to start recording and get the season on tape in order. It's a shame to hear that not all MST3K episodes will be shown on Sci-Fi... but hopefully there will be enough to fill a tape or five.

Fire bad!

Soultaker was not the last episode of MST3K. Diabolique was. Man I miss this show. I still watch my old Joel episodes, but Mike was OK too. I wonder why they never got around to Plan 9?

Hii--Keeba!

Wow, never heard that before. Are you joking? In terms of jokes and overall quality, the Best Brains blush at the KTMA public access shows, and most fans see them as a nice novelty- but just a novelty. Pretty much, a lot of fans seem to agree that MST saw its best years between Comedy Central seasons 2-4, which have the most classic, "best" episodes according to surveys.

I used to be a huge fan of MST3K (not enough time to keep up though) and this was always the general consensus as I heard it. I've never actually seen a KTMA ep but I believe they had no script and jokes were just tossed out randomly, often with long gaps of silence in between.

Quite true, most were unscripted, and I think for the early ones(maybe even all of them?) they didnt even watch the films beforehand so it was completely cold and unplanned. Plus, Tom Servo was called "Beeper" and he just , well... beeped, in an homage to R2D2. There is even an episode with Joel all by lonesome (because everyone else was busy, actually making money) and he goes for minutes not saying anything or just muttering "Uhhh..." "Wow" "That guy is... uhhh, pretty stupid."

Yeah the KTMA episodes sometimes go on for half an hour without anyone saying anything.

The original guy that did Tom Servo's voice in those KTMA episodes was horrible. Very annoying voice.

Oh, I don't know. I've been lucky enough to see 3 or 4 of the KTMA episodes & I was really charmed by them.

Early Gypsy is really hard to take though.

What was that one movie with James Earl Jones in it..."City Limits"...was that it? That one slayed me....

I hope all episodes make it out eventually...

I'm extremely happy to have stumbled upon this post. Looks like I'll have a new hobby for the next few months....

...I'd love to have these on VCD. Now to see if I can get it to work.

These guys have almost finished all the Comedy Central episodes. The Sci-Fi episodes are done completely. I've converted all the episodes to VCD including discs labels and cases and along with my Rhino DVDs and tapes I have a pretty nice MST3K collection going. The VCD conversion is pretty easy, just follow the faqs on the their site and you will have no problems. I do it differently, but their method works just as well.

Do you have a pretty fast computer darkside? I was wondering if I could make these vcd's on my ancient slow computer. Thanks.

I've got a 1.2 Ghz AMD Athlon with 384MB of Ram. Converting an entire episode with tmpeg takes about 2 hours. Not sure what the minimum speed is you can get away with, but I would imagine anything thats at least a Pentium 2 would be fine.

Very briefly, its a show about a guy and his robots that are trapped in space and forced to watch bad movies. Basically you watch the bad movies with them and they make jokes all the way through the movie. Its a very funny show, but the odd nature of it can take some getting used to.

Here is the fan club site

http://www.mst3kinfo.com/

The show still comes on Saturday mornings on the Sci-Fi channel.
