why would be helpful.... I also need to decide for a cabin, so I just need simple service and local channels (local are available from both in the area)

DirecTv if you are in to sports (they have a sports package for every major sport); Dish if you are in to movie channels (they have more premium movie channels than DirecTv, though not as many pay per view) and HDTV

dish, but make sure (even though money is no object) that they don't charge you for more than wanted. I started with 500 channels and was billed for 500 -- but I didn't want all of them for sure!

After all the research I went with Dish with a Dishplayer. That was long ago and I have been real happy.
