To complete my home theater system I would like to have a Tivo system, now what should I get or look for? HELP! I just need a system that can record up to 35 hours, I don't really think I need one that records up to 60 hours. Anyway, what's a good one to get? What make and model do you all have.

Tivo rules, I must say.

I bought a 14-hour refurbished Tivo from Overstock.com for $180, then I bought a 60 gig IBM Deskstar drive for $200. That brought my capacity up to around 80 hours. Ended up costing me a lot less than it would have to get a already-made large capacity.

no, unfortunately. Right now you can only record one show at a time. (and because there is not a second tuner) you will have to watch that show to. Microsoft's Ulimate TV is supposted to offer two tuners to record two shows or so you can watch one while another is recording. I assume Tivo will release a model in the future to compete with it.

The new Sony DirecTV/Tivo comb unit DOES have two tuners. The second tuner is not active yet, until the firmware/software is complete. When completed, the new firmware/software will be uploaded during on of your daily calls.

Not entirely true. You can watch something else from the list of shows that TiVo has recorded. Also, you can split your cable and watch something else "outside" of the TiVo. A better setup is to split the cable to the TV, TiVo, and VCR. Then you can TiVo one thing, videotape another, and watch something entirely different on the television - all at the same time.

Also, the record times listed are at basic quality which looks like crap. I have a 14 hour one, and at best quality it only gets a little over 4 hours. I tape on best, which looks fine to me, and get a little over 6 hours.

I have Satellite so medium setting is good for most stuff(except sports) and with my 30 hour Tivo I get 19 hours at medium. I haven't filled it up in months, and I have it record a lot.

The Sony DirecTV/Tivo Combo always records on high (The excact quality as the broadcast) and you get about 35 hours (it depends on how much stuff is going on the screen).

Another thing to remember about DirecTivo and UTV is that it won't record OTA or cable. If you like network television, make sure you can get the locals on the dish where you live. You have to qualify to get them. If you don't qualify, you really have to go with a stand-alone unit, which would be Tivo or Replay.
