well i can think of plenty of episodes of BUFFY that have been under the target of the media..

Jackass has been one just reccently.

Beavis and butthead was a target and south park..

When it came out, Married with Children caused an uproar in the midwest.

Also, I believe SOAP caused a bunch of controversy because of an openly homosexual character on the show.

I agree. However, Star Trek was pretty controversial when it was on - it had the first tv kiss btwn different races.

I'd say Married with Children has been one of the most controversial shows in the past decade or so. Maybe also the Howard Stern Show.
