Remember (insert show)?
Remember The League. That was such a great show. I’m ready for a third viewing. I have zero interest in being in a league nor do I even know a thing about it, but damn if this show wasn’t so good. I watched it first run and instantly gravitated toward it because of those guys. Nick Kroll, love Mark Duplass. He does some good work in front and writing behind the camera. I see The Duplass bros logo so often. But this was just a silly show about 5 different guys in a fantasy football league. And, it was entirely funny.
I think I even bought this PVOD. But would rather stream whatever service has, but one thing Vudu and now Fandango at home does is suck at watching a tv show if you don’t watch everyday. They just suck with tv. What other shows that you remember that not necessarily got the recognization it deserved? |
Re: Remember (insert show)?
Unhappily Ever After
Married With Children wannabe from the same creators/producers. By the time they got to the third version of the credits (starting at 1:45) they figured out why anyone was watching it. |
Re: Remember (insert show)?
Remember when Dave was on in the morning? I used to watch this show while waiting for the school bus.

Just Our Luck, with TK Carter as a genie. I think I watched every episode.

Re: Remember (insert show)?
2 Guys a Girl and a Pizza Place. Is the fucking streaming anywhere? I would love to see this. Early Ryan Reynolds’s gold.

https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...b0c41e0a5d.jpg I never saw the show in its original run (I was too young, I didn't start watching Late Night until around 1984). But Dave would mention his old morning show from time to time, and back in the pre-internet days I would think "Great, I really want to see that show but how the hell is that ever going to happen?". It's not like NBC was going to rerun it, it was like the stuff of legend. When I finally found an episode on YouTube I was thrilled to see something I never thought I'd be able to experience. :)

Long forgotten now. Aired on NBC 13 years ago. Created by Kyle Killen, who recently worked on the Halo TV series. And was also produced by Howard Gordon, who produced 24. Probably one of the most unique shows that aired on network TV. It was cancelled, but it did have an ending. |
Re: Remember (insert show)?
Awake was pretty cool, one of those midseason shows you started to watching, knowing it won't get a 2nd season, hoping, the end would work. In the case of Awake the ending was open to interpretation, but it kind of worked for the show.

Re: Remember (insert show)?
Funny show about a soap opera from James Burrows, Glen Charles, and Les Charles. All three worked on "Taxi" and "Cheers". Burrows of course also directed some great series including "The Mary Tyler Moore Show", "The Bob Newhart Show", "Frasier", and "Will & Grace". Terrible theme song, like most 80's shows.
|
Re: Remember (insert show)?
^ That theme music sounds like some cheap track that they inserted for syndication because they used a real song that they couldn't afford the rights to use. And then they used the shot of NYC at night from Night Court.

Starring the two stars from the movie Excalibur Nigel Terry and Cherie Lunghi. I like it, sadly it was cancelled after a few episode. Ione Skye (remember her?) was the only American cast. |

The top super spy for the U.S. gets killed. The U.S. spy agency doesn't want our adversaries to know he's dead. Henry Phyfe (Red Buttons) is a dead ringer for the dead spy. He's a cowardly average schmuck. Fred Clark, head of the secret spy agency wants to send him on dangerous missions. He'd always refuse. "Uh-uh. No way. I ain't gonna do it!". Fred Clark would wear him down with a patriotic speech, patriotic music and the flag waving in the background. "I'LL DO IT!" There's a sexy British or French female spy who helps him on the missions. She figures out right away he's a fake when she kisses him. She and the real spy had a thing going on. Phyfe would always screw up the missions and she would get them out of it. Watched this every week as a kid around 1965-66. I think it came on right after Batman. Never forgotten it. Looked it up.Thursday on ABC Batman/Gidget/Double Life of Henry Phyfe/Bewitched |

Re: Remember (insert show)?
I remember a lot of TV shows, especially the ones that were canceled far too soon.
I haven't really serial-watched TV shows since the mid '00s. I would rather watch movies. My list: Stargate Universe. I about needed therapy when they canceled this . Firefly (I can't believe they cancelled this most excellent show after one season)! The Time Tunnel - Ended far too soon (One season). The Bridge (US) Loved the cast. Left you stranded after two seasons. The Richard Pryor Show - the show was killed by skit controversy after four episodes. |
Re: Remember (insert show)?
I thought Dead Like Me was older than it is. 2003.
Keep thinking I need to give this a re-watch. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...0e9006787e.jpg |

This was an early 90s staple for me. The mis-adventures of book editor Martin Tupper, his best friend Eddie Charles, secretary Toby, ex-wife Judith, and boss Gabby Fiske (played by Michael McKean) on HBO. Very funny and quite a bit more risqué than network sitcoms. |
Re: Remember (insert show)?
I'm a huge fan of Norm Macdonald and used to watch his sitcom (The Norm Show, later shortened to Norm) when it aired back in 1999 to 2001. I hadn't watched the show since then (the series was released on DVD about 15 years ago and is out of print and pretty expensive now). The series was very recently uploaded to YouTube and I've been rewatching it this week and really enjoying it. Norm was such a treasure, I miss him a lot. :(

Something never seen before in a 90s sitcom. I still laugh when I think about two of the characters having a housewarming party, everyone's walking into the party handing them a gift, and Ryan Reynolds hands them half a roll of toilet paper. "It was kinda last minute". |
