S.W.A.T. Exiles -- S: Shemar Moore -- Ordered to series
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...dc29d478c1.jpg
 Holy shit. SWAT lives. Although it's a new incarnation with Moore coming back as the lead. They are filming 10 episodes this summer. Sounds like it's being made for a streamer. If they bring anyone back from the main show, I would like it to be either Jay Harrington or David Lim. Here is the synopsis: Here’s the logline for the spinoff: “After a high-profile mission goes sideways, Hondo is pulled out of forced retirement to lead a last-chance experimental SWAT unit made up of untested, unpredictable young recruits. Hondo must bridge a generational divide, navigate clashing personalities, and turn a squad of outsiders into a team capable of protecting the city and saving the program that made him who he is.” https://deadline.com/2025/05/swat-sp...&utm_id=608448 |
Re: S.W.A.T. Exiles -- S: Shermar Moore -- Ordered to series
JFC let the guy go to Criminal Minds already!
But in all seriousness, I will watch this. Love the franchise. And if it is on a steamer they can make it a bit edgier. |
Re: S.W.A.T. Exiles -- S: Shermar Moore -- Ordered to series
According to the story, everyone who was on the production crew (200+ people) get to keep their jobs. That's pretty awesome of Sony to keep all the key people behind the scenes employed.

Re: S.W.A.T. Exiles -- S: Shermar Moore -- Ordered to series
The only character they should keep is Deacon. Maybe Tan. Most of the new people are easily replaced. Hicks too maybe.

Re: S.W.A.T. Exiles -- S: Shermar Moore -- Ordered to series
Sony put out an official press release for this new iteration of SWAT. Now that this is probably heading to a streamer, I think they will likely give it a little more edge to it. Probably more R rated action and maybe more freedom with language. I always thought with the original show being a network series they had to bite their tongue with more realistic language. Hell, the SWAT direct to video movies were all R rated. Sounds like this more forward in time after the show ended since Hondo is being pulled from "retirement"
Netflix seems like the most logical place. The back catalog is there and Shawn Ryan's other show "The Night Agent" also from Sony is also there. SONY PICTURES TELEVISION ANNOUNCES "S.W.A.T. EXILES" SPINOFF SERIES STARRING SHEMAR MOORE Jason Ning joins as Showrunner as part of a renewed overall deal with Sony Pictures Television CULVER CITY, California - May 18, 2025 - Today, Sony Pictures Television (SPT) announced at LA Screenings a series order for S.W.A.T. Moritz and Pavun Shetty of Original Film, Shemar Moore, and James Scura. Jason Ning is an accomplished television writer and producer with a track record of crafting compelling, genre-spanning stories. With a talent for weaving emotion, action, and intellect into compelling narratives, Jason continues to bring fresh, thought-provoking storytelling to screens around the globe. |
Re: S.W.A.T. Exiles -- S: Shermar Moore -- Ordered to series
How S.W.A.T. exiles came to fruition. It got fast tracked in record time. It appears none of the supporting cast was aware of it until Shemar called each one personally on Sunday. And none are in it as of right now aside from Moore.

Re: S.W.A.T. Exiles -- S: Shermar Moore -- Ordered to series
I'm glad to see it but I don't understand the path of this show. Why can't anyone make up their mind if it should continue or not? 2 previous cancellations which got reversed, now a spinoff which might as well be the main show, just in another season with some new talent.

Re: S.W.A.T. Exiles -- S: Shermar Moore -- Ordered to series
I don't understand why this is a new show instead of another season of the old show. It has the same lead and the same 200+ person production crew. Weird.

If they wipe the slate clean, probably a lot cheaper with a stable of new actors.

Now it’s a “new” series with most likely new cast members. So they will lower talent costs. Sony has more control of this new show it appears. |

This is very similar to the Bosch situation. Started "new" but with a few remaining characters. |
Re: S.W.A.T. Exiles -- S: Shemar Moore -- Ordered to series
From today’s Variety article. They talked to the head of Sony TV? Looks like cast members can return. And this will probably come out sometime next year.
So far, only Shemar has been announced as making the transfer, but is there a possibility of any other characters or stars from the “S.W.A.T.” mothership moving to “Exiles”?Pope: For sure. As Keith was just saying, it’s a universe. There is a clear world that we’re exploring here. We’re a few weeks in. We’re still putting it all together, but for sure, I think you can expect some of your favorites to be a part of it in some way. What’s the ETA here? When are you hoping that cameras might roll?Pope: We’re planning start production end of August, so, we’re moving! |

David Lim (Tan) was not happy with how this spinoff came about. They were working hard to try to get a 9th season and were blindsided that Sony gave a new show to Shemar with no mention of anyone else. “I’ve been sitting with everything that came out last week, and I just want to say this: Being a part of S.W.A.T. for the past 8 seasons has been one of the great honors of my life. I poured my heart into playing Tan—and even more than that, into the team and friendships we built on and off screen. What made S.W.A.T. special wasn’t just the action, or one character. It was the squad. The bond. The camaraderie. The shared blood, sweat, tears, and laughs we gave to every episode. That effortless chemistry was there from the very first day we came together for the pilot, and it carried through all 8 seasons. I’m proud of how we fought for a ninth season. We believed we still had more to give, more stories to tell. We wanted it for our crew, for each other, and for the newer faces just joining us. It wasn’t in the cards for all of us—and that’s okay. We had a magical run and went out on a high note with those final two episodes. I’d be lying if I said the rollout of the new spinoff didn’t sting. It was tough to see it announced just two days after our finale—with no mention of the cast who helped build S.W.A.T. from day one. After 8 incredible seasons, it felt like we were brushed aside when there could’ve been a moment of reflection and recognition—for the people who built this show, and for the impact it had on so many. I’ve seen the comments, the messages, the support—and it truly means a lot. I may not know what the future holds for Tan, but I couldn’t be more proud of what we created together—our cast, writers, producers, crew… our SWAT family. No version of this story can take that away. Thanks for riding with us. Always. Roll SWAT. |
Re: S.W.A.T. Exiles -- S: Shemar Moore -- Ordered to series
Perhaps they can bring back Stephanie Sigman, in an encounter with Cortez in the fbi.

Re: S.W.A.T. Exiles -- S: Shemar Moore -- Ordered to series
Good news. Jay Harrington and Patrick St. Esprit have signed on. They will at least appear in the Pilot. Not known if they will be regulars or not. Filming to be begin soon.

Basically two characters that are worth carrying over. Tan probably too.

Re: S.W.A.T. Exiles -- S: Shemar Moore -- Ordered to series
The guy who they announced is directing the Pilot ,Kevin Tanchoroen, has directed a lot of genre TV. He worked a lot on Agents of Shield because his sister was the co-showrunner and she’s married to Joss Whedon’s brother.
Hopefully, they find a decent partner to air this. This will most likely air on a streaming service. |
Re: S.W.A.T. Exiles -- S: Shemar Moore -- Ordered to series
Looks like filming has begun, so this is actually happening. What network or streamer picks it up is still unknown.

Re: S.W.A.T. Exiles -- S: Shemar Moore -- Ordered to series
The show started production before knowing who, if anyone, will air it?

Netflix would seem like the obvious choice since they carry the original show. |
Re: S.W.A.T. Exiles -- S: Shemar Moore -- Ordered to series
That seems like a terrible business model.
|
Re: S.W.A.T. Exiles -- S: Shemar Moore -- Ordered to series
That happens with shows occasionally. With the popularity of the previous version, this should easily be sold to someone.
