‘Grimm’ Movie in Development at Peacock

“Grimm” is coming back from the dead — this time, in the form of a movie.

Peacock is developing a feature-length reboot of the fantasy cop drama, which aired for six seasons on NBC from 2011 to 2017, Variety has confirmed.

Josh Berman, the creator of Lifetime’s “Drop Dead Diva,” is writing the “Grimm” movie, which he is executive producing with the original series showrunners David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf, as well as original EPs Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner. Milliner’s Hazy Mills Productions and Universal Television are the studios behind the reboot.

The plot and cast of the “Grimm” movie are kept under wraps, but the original series starred David Giuntoli as Portland Homicide Detective Nick Burkhardt, who discovers he is a Grimm, a guardian sworn to protect the balance between humanity and the mythological creatures known as Wesen. Throughout the series, Nick takes on a variety of menacing opponents with help from his wolf-like Wesen buddy Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) and his partner Detective Hank Griffin (Russell Hornsby).

Rounding out the ensemble were Bitsie Tulloch, Sasha Roiz, Reggie Lee, Bree Turner and Claire Coffee. Recurring cast members included Danny Bruno, Jacqueline Toboni, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio and Damien Puckler.

This isn’t the first time the studio has toyed with reviving “Grimm.” In 2018, NBC announced a spinoff of the series from writer and executive producer Melissa Glenn and much of the original creative team. Per the network, the spinoff was meant to build “off the mythology of the original series” and “feature returning fan favorites” and “new characters.” However, the series never made it past development.

I would be interesting in watching this as I found the original to be a fun show to watch. The one character I did not like in the show was Juliette, I just thought she was an annoying character, even when she became Eve.

Juliette is the most tragic character in the entire series. Her whole life gets screwed up by her boyfriend who then abandons her for the person that sexually assaulted him, got pregnant and had his kid. Also she killed his Aunt. I've always felt sorry for that character.

I'd be in for this. David Giuntoli (Nick) and Bitsie Tulloch (Juliette) probably come as a package deal since they are married in real life.

This has been in my "watch at some point" queue for a long time. Finally sat down and watched the first few episodes over the holiday break. It seems interesting, but...so small and confined? Like everything is being filmed in the same several blocks with a park filling in for the woods. And like half the people the guy meets are monsters! And I make this criticism as a Buffy/Angel fan. I'm unsure whether to continue.

The first couple seasons is more procedural, with self contained case episodes. Maybe the
minor backstory continues throughout the season.

In the later seasons, it’s more serialized for the full season.

Grimm was such a pleasant surprise to watch and I loved that for a while it felt like I was watching this show that was really good but had yet to be noticed by viewing masses who end up labeling characters like they did on X-Files (such as Cancer Man).

Claire Coffee's character was great on the show, and she is still one of my TV crushes.

I watched from start to finish and made sure to not get too behind on the show (and it was one of those rare shows during the time I had Tivo DVRS that if episodes were piling up, I did not just walk away from the show but took the time to catch up).

Hope the film brings back most/all of the core cast of characters. Psych films were able to bring over the entire primary cast which is why the Psych films are fun to watch, do the same with Grimm and I think people will be happy to watch.

I recently rewatched some select episodes on Comet TV channel (on Hulu Live). I watched during the original NBC run each week, so it was good to see my favorite episodes again.

But Comet TV censors / blurs some gory scenes! It was more hilarious than outrageous, considering this originally aired on NBC. Also, the commercial breaks are not correct. Comet TV inserted their own breaks, so some scenes end abruptly and resume after the commercial. It was terrible.

And I don’t subscribe to Prime, otherwise I would rewatch on there.

You could have gotten Peacock for $19.99 for 1 year on Black Friday.

Yeah I know you’re very frugal with entertainment and streaming services.

Six seasons and a movie! ;) I know, wrong series.

I loved Grimm and I would certainly watch a movie or even a new series.

I agree with Kdogg's take on Juliette. I thought she was a tragic character and unfairly hated by some of the show's fans. I didn't like the route they took with Eve in the last couple of seasons, as I didn't think Tulloch pulled that character off very well, but she was good as Juliette.

Is this really necessary other than to milk some viewers for the nostalgia factor???

I hate-watched this entire series hoping at some point the writing would get better and it just got more and more hokey. What could have been a fun sendup of Grimm's Fairy Tales ended up as some weird soap opera-ish knockoff that was like the sci fi storylines that daytime soaps occasionally sunk to in the 80s and 90s.

The only good thing that came out of this was some pretty new faces got their big break.

I can't imagine the writing team has come up with anything interesting enough to justify a 2 hour movie but with NBC shows these days the bar is pretty low. I'll wait to monitor comments here before wasting time on it.

I doubt Grimm is mining nostalgia. It's not like Buffy or something on those lines for genre TV. More likely it found an audience on streaming so there is now a reason to look at extending it while there's interest.
