One of my favorite game shows that Chuck hosted was Greed. I think it aired as a 1 week special 20 something years ago. It did so well that it was brought back for a regular run for a year.

I’m surprised he was only 83. He seemed old when I was a kid watching all his shows. He must have only been in his 40s or 50s.

He was probably one of the last game show hosts left from the 1970's that I watched as a young child. Wink Martindale is still left, but he came much later in the 1970's or early 1980's.

Here's an old video of Chuck on an early pilot for Wheel of Fortune. It's much different than what we would end up with on screen. He was also host of one of my favorite, but mostly forgotten morning gameshows from the 1980's, scrabble. Even as a kid, I was good at this show. All you had to do was pick up on the double meanings for words and you could be successful on this show. So many of them you could get right off the clue with only one letter showing.

Oh yeah I watched Scrabble as a kid. Love Connection only occasionally after school when my sister had it on in the living room. :D
Lingo was a good show. Used to watch that on GSN back in the day. He managed to stay busy over the course of his career. Was disappointed in his politics and his occasional shilling of dubious products but I'll focus on the positive and remember the affable Chuck from the good old days. As Chuck would like to say "We'll be back in 2 and 2!"

I enjoyed Scrabble. He blocked me on twitter.

A young woman who I worked with, who wanted to be an actress, moved to LA and ended up on Love Connection. Everything they said about her, except her name, was a fabrication.

 I'll never see another Love Connection episode the same way again. Next you're going to tell me Cheaters is staged.

I remember seeing him on Love Connection and Scrabble because my mom watched those shows. I wasn't quite old enough to remember him on WoF.

He was the WoF host I grew up with along with Susie Stafford.

Maybe Brad Nessler who announces college college football games reminds me of Woolery or could be his doppelganger.

I remember watching the morning version of Wheel of Fortune when I was very young (2-4 years old). I recall being very upset when the moved WoF from the 10:30 am slot to the 11 am time slot because I would watch WoF and then watched The Price is Right at 11 am. My mom convinced me that I could watch WoF at 11 am and then watch the last half of TPIR at 11:30. That only lasted a few days or weeks and I gave up on WoF to watch the full hour of TPIR.

He was great on Love Connection. He knew exactly where to probe with the couples to see where the interesting points were on their dates without going straight to did you F*** or not and how was it.

Too bad, in his later years his family allowed him to publicly air his dementia on the internet where the promoted whacko conspiracy theories and aired his racist and sexist thoughtly openly. Sorta destroyed any goodwill you had toward this man from his long career. Oh well.

He knew how to read the notes he was given, telling him what questions to ask about the dates, based on the interviews the contestants did with producers.

His skill was acting like he was really interviewing them right there on camera.

Not going political but I saw his obituary in the East Bay Times and his right wing views were in bold type.
