53 minutes of fun starts now!!!

Edit to add: Okay that was fun… for awhile. The first half hour was great. The last 20 minutes was telegraphed. It was enough to keep me happy.

Oh, and Kanan Jarrus was acknowledged. That was a nice moment.

Hyperspace traveling whales. Ok, I think Star Wars has shown us everything now. I did like the Anakin/Ahsoka scenes. I thought they were well done. Little comical face during Clone War sequences, but the duel between them and subsequent training was good. Good overall.

“Anakin, you look the same”

The transitions of Anakin to Vader were cool.

Those of us who watched Rebels knew the purgil would be the key to getting there.

The Empire knew they’d need a hyperspace ring to bring the Chimera back. They wouldn’t be able to convince the “space whales” to make a return trip.

I’m glad I didn’t travel to a theater to watch this. I would have left disappointed.

It was fine, the creative choices were good it's just my issues with the execution. I was expecting more from the Anakin / force vision sequences tbh, it was just so clear they were on a stage and they didn't even try to create whatever planets they were supposed to be on...just smoke everywhere was the answer. (and to not even change the lighting for what was supposed Mandalore?) Again it was enjoyable but just overall left that stale feeling from the limitations of the filmmakers.

And while I'm not crazy about the space whales I did appreciate the Jonah and the Whale allegory. Religion/spirituality has always been a part of the the Star Wars mythos and as much as some at Lucasfilm want to move away from it, Dave seems to steer right into it which is fine by me.

There better be a visually striking entrance into this new galaxy next week, they need to absolutely land that... I'm talking like opening of ANH level, underneath a massive ship or entering some amazing environment.

Good follow up episode, felt like 2 mini episodes together.

I just watched Our Planet II on Netflix, so seeing the space whale migration seemed familiar haha

I was wondering how Ahsoka could survive under water for so long. And then I remembered she isn’t human!

Great scenes with Anakin and Snips. I didn’t watch Rebels, but I did see the Clone Wars movie, so I was familiar with that subplot.

Good to see a live action clone wars ;) (because AOTC was basically CGI)

lol wut

This is the episode they made. big deal about, even showing it in theaters? Outside of the flashback, it was just ok, and a bit boring.

What’s next, jumping space sharks?

jk

Good episode, reminds me of “last memory flashbacks” which is what scientists call for near death experiences. This could explain the blur and revisiting scenes from past experiences. Or Annakin being a vessel to the near death experiences. Or as mentioned, Disney going cheap on dome stages.

I do want to mention that I'm so happy for SW fans whose entry point into the SW galaxy was the prequels/animation, to see this must be a dream come true. I'm an OT guy, cut out the cereal box Luke Skywalker mask, watched Ewoks/Droids cartoons, etc so it just isn't quite the same for me. But I do genuinely appreciate and enjoy seeing the reactions from newer generations of fans.

For me, pretty dull stuff. Subpar script and acting. Sorely missing were the "baddies" in this episode, even for just a few scenes. Can't imagine spending the bucks to see this in a theater.

Fifty minute episode which I wished was trimmed to thirty minutes...like the running times of the previous episodes.

OT guy here too. A New Hope was my first theater experience when I was 8. I love this show and the character of Ahsoka as much as the Original Trilogy.

Not exactly the crazy surprise episode I was expecting but not bad either. Before we started it (and based on my question in the ep4 thread) I told my wife to expect to see magic space whales. I got a crazy look.

So how exactly do these whales know where to go? I get that they're magic and can jump to other galaxies but how to do they know which galaxy and where in it the ring ship jumped to?

As Ahsoka said, she doesn’t know if the whales know or not. Or if it will work at all.

But I imagine it has to be the nearest galaxy. If you’re going to test a brand new hyperspace ring (first one of its kind), you’ll probably take the shortest trip.

And of course any galaxy is humongous, so Ahsoka will probably have to force tether with Sabine to make the connection to a specific solar system and planet. That’s going to be another challenge.

The map is leading them to wherever Thrawn and Ezra ended up (another question...how does that map exist?). I guess the whales could have made that jump to the nearest galaxy as well but that's where the ring ship is going.

If the whales have a regular migration path and simply go back & forth, we can assume they're migrating now to the same place they migrated when Ezra & Thrawn were attached.

The flashback was giving me Thanos/young Gamora in Infinity War vibes... then I looked it up and it's the same actress (Ariana Greenblatt) playing young Ahsoka.

I can't believe that Hayden Christensen's acting has gotten even worse since the prequels. He can take a simple three word line reading and still make it sound awkward... that's a rare feat.

Visually beautiful and I loved seeing Anakin and the Clone Wars... but besides fan service, wtf was the actual point? It didn't move the plot one millimeter forward. Why didn't they use the WBW to drive alternative plots going forward?? Ugh.

There are a lot of people who have never watched any of the animated series and have no idea of Ahsoka's ties to Anakin. I think this episode was important in giving context and showing that master/padawan relationship in live action form.

I was watching a YouTube video where some guy made an excellent point: Why didn't they just have Sabine record the star map with her helmet? I mean, she left it behind anyway. Covertly giving Hera direction to where the enemy was taking her would have made Sabine's decision in the last episode seem far less ignorant and selfish.

I don't think the standard hypedrives can get there the same way the Massive Ring and Space Whales can.

What was special about the ring other than having a couple/few hyperdrives installed? Which also brings the question, wouldn't star destroyers have been able to galaxy jump as well?
