Wasn't Cowboy Bebop in the top lists for a bit too though?
This probably does way way better internationally than Bebop did so that should be good.

Weird that you keep using the term English dub when that is it's native language. A dub generally refers to a language other then the original.

Re: One Piece (Netflix) -- Based on the Japanese Manga Series -- Premieres 8/31/23
That seems like a huge jump between number 1 and number 2 global considering the one week lead and relatively similar runtime.
Does seem a bit odd though. I assume views is accounts who have viewed it? Dividing the number of hours by views is more than the total runtime, so on average everyone viewed it more than one complete run total? Which means a ton of people just watched it multiple times in a week (to make up for those who viewed it and didn't watch the whole thing)? Or do I not understand the stats?
Still taking the slow burn with the kids (2 episodes in) but glad I shouldn't have to rush to make our "hours" count.

140m hours worldwide in 5 days is pretty impressive.
Their last show to even crack 100m was Night Agent back in early April. I mean, it has nothing on Wednesday but still, pretty solid.

I’m watching it, but it doesn’t feel like anything special to me. The world feels so much smaller than I thought it would.

Did you watch the entire season? I have a decent idea where it ends and while they rushed through it as fast as they can, this is still basically the introduction to this world, which expands a lot by the last arc in this season but doesn't really get going for a while. Like they still have only been in the East Blue (I suspect) and their destination is the Grand Line.
I remember early on thinking how overpowered Luffy and Zoro are, that Oda had to spend a lot of time giving them handicaps just to make fights last longer, but the world does open way up.

Re: One Piece (Netflix) -- Based on the Japanese Manga Series -- Premieres 8/31/23
I just finished the first season last night. I am not a fan of the fights versus the anime, and I understand it's tough to not make Luffy's elastic powers not look ridiculous, but he also feels much weaker. I kind of liked how ridiculous the anime was. I don't know how it scales later (I'm only 115 episodes in right now), but the show feels a little claustrophobic versus the show. I don't know if I would feel different had I not started the anime, so my critiques may not be the same for other people.
Also, for how much they condensed the anime into these eight episodes, I still found the episodes a little slow and plodding. You would think the pace would be much quicker.

I haven't read the manga but I'm starting this just now. My nephew is a huge manga fan and he says he's afraid to watch it, he thought Cowboy Bebop was terrible.

With Bebop they didn't get the original creators involved and you can kind of tell. With this at least Oda was directly involved.
We all remember the stinker that was Dragon Ball Evolution. Well Akira Toriyama basically came back to the franchise he created because of that movie (hence Dragon Ball Super). I'm sure Oda didn't want something similar happening to his baby.

The One Piece producers say the scripts for season 2 are ready. Just need the strikes to end.
They say it could be ready to air in about 1 year once they can start filming.

The big thing will be how they adapt the next crew member.

It seems people around the world have been enjoying the show, which makes the hard work from the production team truly worth it. To everyone who's been a fan of ONE PIECE for years, and to those who experienced ONE PIECE for the first time, thank you so much. Two weeks after the launch, I just received some great news. I think two seasons was guaranteed. But this is Netflix, so most likely it will be canceled before a third.

This thing will live and die with how they do Chopper...
Finally finished it with the kids. They cut a ton of stuff out but left enough in (I think) to make it digestible, plus they added the parallel storyline with the Marines/Navy which wasn't in the source but adds to the overall flow, I think (plus Garp and Koby and even Helmeppo are awesome). I love One Piece the manga but it really is a slog to get to the point where the main crew is together. Fights are not as dynamic as the anime but given the limitations they had are way better than I thought they'd be. Luffy and co. do seem weaker but then again so do the MCU heroes compared to comic books.
Great casting all around... I'm sure there's a weak link but I can't think of one at the moment (though Kuro was certainly not what I was expecting).
My son pointed out to me that in the manga (which he is re-reading), Zoro is recruited by Baroque works but it isn't shown, just talked about, and Oda in one of his Q and As drew a silly picture of what he thought Mr. 7 looked like. I had completely forgotten about that and thought that was new to the live action.
