Wow. Of all the awful potential picks, that is up there.

Well, he's a proven professional and everybody already knows who he is, so it's a safe choice.
I can't believe the fortunes this guy rakes in with all the jobs he gets for being handsome and inoffensive.

I guess it really doesn't matter. I usually only have on as background. He won't be smoozing with celebs unless they have lots of celebrity weeks.

I barely watch Wheel as it is. Ryan Secreast is worse than having Mayim Bailik hosting Jeopardy.

Oh.

I'm probably one of the most frequent Wheel Watchers here and I am not enthusiastic about that choice.

That's just... a choice, I guess.

His picture is next to "safe choice" in the dictionary.

A pretty lame and safe choice. I guess Sony thinks Americans haven't seen enough of Seacrest's face in the last 20 years.

They should have gotten Dunkelman instead.

Re: Pat Sajak to retire after 2023-24 season of Wheel of Fortune

really disappointing but yet so predictable...

Seacrest got his start going on private weekend visits to Palm Springs with Merv Griffin...Merv Griffin created WOF...and now here is Seacrest hosting, eventually exec producing and probably taking it over...it all comes full circle...thanks Uncle Merv!

Why can't the idiots that are in charge ever find some new unproven talent and give them a shot? There are so many people out there who could do this job for the next 30 years and probably get locked into a contract for 1/10th the price. Seacrest is nothing special and is on the downward side of his shelf life. His health scare/on-air stroke last year while hosting LIVE should. have scared the producers off.

I guess the next big question now is who takes over for Vanna? Maybe they will get a Kardashian since Seacrest was the Dr. Frankenstein who gave us that mess....

When you have a proven money-maker, the name of the game is risk-averse. Jeopardy turned replacing Trebek into a fiasco, and people are still complaining about it. Seacrest has enough miles under his belt to understand exactly what his role is in this situation. Be bland, but not too bland, and cash those paychecks.

I mostly agree but Pat has personally, wit and an easy rapport with people. Seacrest has literally none of that. He's fine as a talking head. He'd be a great host of Entertainment Tonight. But for this job, he feels wrong to me.

I guess Seacrest really lucked out with the Me Too stuff not really sticking to him. I also thought that Chris Hardwick could have been a good choice for Wheel, but his Me Too stuff did more damage to his career though he still does The Wall on NBC, I think.

Seacrest hosted E! News for a while but not ET.

They should have had guest hosts like Jeopardy and see who was the best fit?

He's a professional interviewer. He talks to guests on the radio. He hosted LIVE. Does anyone think hosting and interacting with contestants on WoF will be harder than doing that on American Idol?

They would just be begging for trouble.

Announce the host now and say "This is the fit. Like it or fuck off." And give people 15 months to accept it or not. No one who watches WoF is going to stop because of Ryan Seacrest, and no one is going to start. Status quo is all they need.

Seacrest will probably be on the shortlist for every Legacy Series News//Gameshow etc opening for the next 20 years. He has been a bland inoffensive corporate mouthpiece for the last 20+ years, and their was no social media when he was an unknown/upstart so no paper trail for him to get people online ready to attack him with their pitchforks. I don't blame WOF for taking the safe route after the Jeopardy fiasco, though I think someone like Alfonso Riberio is also a safe pick and has been really good anytime he has been handed the reigns of a gameshow.

WIll he have to give up American Idol now with WOF hosting duties?

Somehow he manages not to age with all these work responsibilities.

Maybe he was never asked or had no interest but what if Rob Lowe hosted Wheel of Fortune?

They could have gotten a comedian which would have been better than Seacrest.

No, they only work a few days a month and shoot 5 to 6 episodes per day. I have a friend who works on Wheel and Jeopardy. They are months ahead.
