I’ve seen some people want her to take over as host, but she’s not much younger than Pat. So it wouldn’t really make sense long term.

So the last of the iconic game show hosts rides off into the sunset. I haven't watched regularly this century but it feels like the final gasp of the 20th Century.

I predict Alfonso Ribiero will take over as host.

if they want continuity, they may elevate the announcer to host. People are used to his voice and they have made an effort (contract?) to include him in the promos and the introduction instead of a faceless voice. His name is Jim Thornton

She's 66. Granted she does look good for her age, but 10-15 more years is really pushing it. I highly doubt she works until she's 70.

We are not in the 70-120 age target demographic for the show

He was a solid host on Catch 21. I'd throw John Michael Higgin's name out there too.

Wheel of Fortune: Vanna White Will Stay After Pat Sajak's Retirement

Earlier this month, Pat Sajak announced that, after more than four decades at the helm of one of primetime's most popular game shows, he would be retiring from Wheel of Fortune after the show's upcoming 41st season. But it appears that the long-running game show may not lose all of its familiar faces. Vanna White is reportedly negotiating to stay on Wheel of Fortune after Sajak's departure. According to a report from Puck (via Entertainment Weekly), while no deal has been reached, White is presently in negotiations to stay on as cohost of the series.

Per the report, White is looking for a pay increase, having not received a raise in 18 years — though she has received bonuses during that time. She reportedly makes around $3 million per year while Sajak's salary is almost five times that amount. Both salaries are unconfirmed. White first joined Wheel of Fortune in 1982, taking over for the previous hostess, Susan Stafford.

I’m surprised Vanna makes that much less than Pat does. I figured her salary was lower but she’s been on the show for a long time so I thought she would get a bit more.

It’ll seem odd having her on the show without Pat as they just seem to go together but if she wants to stay on longer, why not?

For someone who’s sole job is to stroll back and forth along the board and tap pre-lit letters, I’d say $3 million is about $2.95 million too much.

I mean you can argue that a lot of celebrities are overpaid. That’s besides the point. She’s been on the show for over forty years and is a staple of it and a recognizable celebrity in her own right. I’m just surprised her salary is that much lower than Pat’s is. I figured she’d be around at least half of what he makes.

I haven't watched the show in years (probably since the 80's and some in the 90's) but I don't remember her really bringing any personality to the show. Just eye candy doing an idiot's job of turning letters. Now she doesn't even have to turn them and just does a symbolic touch of them since we all know they can light up and change on their own.

I know they used to make a little small talk every now & then in the old days, but it seemed Pat carried the load on even that and she didn't bring much to the table even in those little spots. Did things change in the last 20+ years? Seriously curious.

Otherwise, why even keep her? I guess for the old fogies that still watch the show?

When you think about it, Vanna White's "career" is kind of incredible.

She was an attractive, but not especially beautiful or sexy, young woman, who had a middling career as a model and wannabe actress. When she was in her mid-20s, she landed the job of looking pretty while walking back and forth on a daytime game show. And she stuck with it for 40 years (!), making millions and millions and millions of dollars along the way. She never thought, "I'm too big for this," and quit. And they never thought she had gotten too old, and replaced her. Incredible.

It is a dream job. Get paid millions to basically work one month a year. The rest of the time you can live a carefree and fun life.

A little surprised she's making so little but I imagine they told her she's always replaceable with a younger model. She has a lot more leverage now that Sajak is retiring, audiences will need an anchor from the old days as they try out new hosts.

I mean they’ve clearly kept her around for a reason. Otherwise her job is easily replaceable, and unfortunately women in particular in show business are often traded off for a younger model once they hit a certain age. She still looks good though.

I am not a wheel watcher, but I think it would be a mistake to have period of auditioning revolving hosts.

The game is the star of the show, and unlike Jeopardy, the host is more like a play-by-play man. Your turn to spin. Here's what you got. Choose a letter. Do you have a guess? Here's what you won. The host needs to be enough of a presence to be felt, but not so intrusive that they try to make the show about them.

They have a year to think about this, and consider people, and even audition people behind the scenes. Hire someone. Announce them as the new host and move on.

It would seem like auditioning hosts on the air would garner attention, but when the dust settles, the people who watch the show are the people who watch the show. Just don't make a decision to drive them away.

Re: Pat Sajak to retire after 2023-24 season of Wheel of Fortune

^ Agreed. Hopefully the Wheel of Fortune producers know exactly what show they’re running and who their demo audience is. It would be a bad idea to try for a trendy or “hip” new host. Stick with a vanilla host who’s somewhat charismatic and gels well with Vanna.

Bringing in someone like Jane Lynch or Steve Harvey would be a huge mistake.

I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if they gave hosting duties to Sajak’s daughter. It feels like they’re already grooming her for the role anyway.

In the game show world I think they’d fit the bill. I’m not sure who you think is hip and trendy and would also be willing to host a cheesy game show.

Anyone can ask Drew Carey how many millions a year he is raking in for doing almost nothing hosting TPIR.
