He’s the doctor from season 1 who wanted to run tests on Grogu. He and Elia were on Gideon’s ship together.

Re: The Mandalorian (S3E03) - “Chapter 19: The Convert ” - 3/15/22

I'm a sucker for more Coruscant, so I enjoyed the eye candy. Also thought it was interesting the iPad mentioned Coruscant was one of several planet sized cities. I know it's a big, crowded galaxy, but damn!

Loved the folksy Mon Calamari and the sideways look he gave Persing when he said it was a trap.

Most of this material will be germaine to a larger story, perhaps even outside the confines of The Mandalorian, but dumping it all in the middle of a single Mando episode was clunky at best. If they were trying to draw parallels between the doctor becoming a member of the New Republic and Bo Katan joining the Children of the Watch, they failed miserably.

It makes me wonder how they seem to keep failing at basic storytelling so much. The sequel trilogy, Book of Boba Fett, Kenobi, and now their flagship show.

The opening dogfight was movie worthy and then we slowed to a crawl in what seems like a way to fix plot holes in Rise of Skywalker? I dunno. I'm here for the ride but it wasn't too exciting.

I thought Coruscant looked terrible, especially the scene where they're all sitting at the picnic table shooting the shit. Too shiny and plastic-y looking with weird lighting. It just looked excessively fake. The CG looked like something out of Sanctuary. Remember that show? Yikes.

Yeah and the stilted side by side walking when they're clearly on a treadmill. It's the modern version of bad rear projection in driving scenes from older movies.

Yeah the first season was great with the introduction of Baby Yoda. I'm not immersed in the Star Wars universe and I have zero interest in Doctor Pretorius.

He seems like an odd character to bring back.

And are they actually going to use the success of this show in order to try to justify or explain the dumpster fire that was Rise of Skywalker? Really? We're going to find out how "somehow, Palpatine has returned"? As if that will make it all better. Is this simply a recycled storyline from the cancelled Rangers of the New Republic that someone just can't let go?

Mando has plenty to do with reclaiming Mandalore, reuniting his people, and getting some helmet on helmet action with Bo Katan. Not to mention teaching Grogu how to drive. This is a waste of time. Period.

Same. I’ve been bored by the first 2 episodes, especially last weeks slog through the mine.

Also agree. Wasn't what I was expecting but liked it for what it was. And that opening 10 minutes was absolutely thrilling!

I love anything with coruscant. This also makes me want more post Jedi content. More of how Luke and Leia tried to hold the new republic together and how the first order came to be.

No. Just no.

That was Filoni thinking his juvenile sensibilities could try to pull off an Andor-level execution.

Thought it was pretty damned obvious where this is going. She fried Pershing's brain so he didn't spill any secrets. When she learned he was willing to resume his experiments, that was fine. What wasn't fine was doing it to help the New Republic. She did it to protect Gideon (or a clone of Gideon?), who will pop back up as the big bad. He will get the Dark Saber back from Din. Bo Katan will kill Gideon, reclaim the Dark Saber and rule Mandalor. It's brilliant ...

The only thing that was interesting after the dogfight was the Coruscant elitist who couldn't even remember which side tried to draft him into their army. We got a taste of just how disconnected large parts of the galaxy were from the Empire and the Rebellion in ... one of those movies ... can't remember which one. The one with Benecio Del Toro.

It really is also a metaphor for how disconnected the modern Star Wars universe is from the one I grew up with. It isn't an uninteresting thing on its own ... it just isn't the same thing though. It's become something more akin to Babylon 5 or Star Trek incarnations. We've gone from serialized swashbuckling samurai space westerns to ... well, whatever this is at its heart ... if it has a heart.

I will say, not only was the dogfight freaking awesome, but so was the acting of whoever was in the suits during the dogfight.

I popped on Season 1 while working on some stuff today ... wow. The writing has really fallen off. Or just changed that much. It's a far cry, either way.

We have five episodes left. At least one of them will be filler nonsense. Maybe Mando and Ellie, er, Grogu can meet an all grown up Omega and teach her a lesson about friendship.

Timothy Olyphant should show up. He was shown floating in a bacta tank.

God was that fucking terrible. Trying to be like Andor and shoe-horning in FORTY minutes of a character no one gives a fuck about? What a horrible episode. I think I actually dozed off during the doctor's stuff. Maybe break it up and have him be a smaller subplot over the whole season. I could maybe take 10 minutes at a time of that story. Not an entire fucking episode. Bleh.

Yeah, that probably would have been the way to go. Especially considering most people complain about the short run-time of each episode anyway.

The dogfight stuff was cool and I thought the dry-docked Imperial Cruiser was cool to see as well but overall the whole episode played out like a prequel trilogy movie. I don’t need a whole episode of sitting around and talking about political espionage.

I’m still enjoying this show but, man, I wish “Baby Yoda” didn’t become the phenomenon that he became. As cute as he is, it really feels like it’s bogging this show down. Also, those actual human baby sounds he makes are jarring. For a franchise that prides itself on sound effects and sound design, it just feels lazy.

I was fine with the first two fetch quest episodes, but this was really fucking boring. Obviously this episode is leading to something. I’m just not sure I want to see it.

Over fifty minutes, awesome! ......................wait....what's this? So a ten-minute episode. Yeah, what made ANYONE think that was a good idea?

I gave up on Andor after 3 episodes, so this episode was a bore.

Surprised at the hate for this episode. I quite liked it. The dog fight at the beginning was coll as was the ending.

It was also cool to see more of Coruscant and spend some time with Dr. Pershing. I thought it was kind of interesting. I’m curious how this will tie into the rest of the season and the bigger picture. As much as I prefer to forget the sequels if it’s setting up Palpatine’s return it does make sense.

I didn't mind the Dr. Pershing narrative excursion on principle, but wow it needed some serious editing. It could have easily accomplished what it needed to in about half the screen time and would have felt much more consistent with the established pace of this show.

Edited to add: The pacing difference was especially jarring given how awesome the beginning and end of the episode were.

I guess it's better than traditional prison or execution but the amnesty program seemed a bit odd. They don't even have names anymore just numbers? Sounds like the empire and their TK numbers
