I'm through 8 episodes and this is definitely above average. I liked Basso in The Kings of Summer. It's about time he broke out a little more like the rest of that film's cast. He has good chemistry with Luciane Buchanan... who is pretty damn cute.

Glad to see it was quickly renewed.

I’m through 6 episodes and this show is awesome. This is the show “24 Legacy” should have been (young protagonist hero).

Got a couple more episodes to go, and we are really enjoying it. Glad to hear it is getting another season.

Through episode 4 (a lot has certainly happened in just a few episodes!), and still really enjoying it.

There are a few inklings of tropes, but they seem to be avoiding the main ones. The art teacher is closest and bugging me, so hopefully that gets resolved soon.

Re: The Night Agent (Netflix) -- From creator and EP Shawn Ryan -- Premieres 3/23/23

I'm more than halfway through and I like it a lot so far. I'll probably finish in the next day or two.

Before I started, I didn't know Robert Patrick and Kari Matchett were in it, so that was nice to see. Also, I recognized the actress, Rebecca Staab, who played the wife of Patrick's character. She's been in a ton of stuff, usually as a guest actor in one or two episodes of tv shows. But I always remember her as the hot, snooty girl in the bar in the movie Love Potion #9 that Tate Donovan first tests out the potion on.

Wife and I started this the other day. Watched 1st episode. Despite it seeming like this is low budget (very few name actors in lead parts), it is actually surprisingly well done.

Re: The Night Agent (Netflix) -- From creator and EP Shawn Ryan -- Premieres 3/23/23

Episode 8 reaction (and a 24 spoiler)
Spoiler:
Not sure if intentional or not, but that final shot of Monks (DB Woodside) lying on the ground dead was very similar to the David Palmer assassination overhead camera shot from 24 Day 5. And as any 24 fan knows, DB Woodside played David Palmer’s brother in 24.

Also, this show has legit firearm handling. Good to see characters without fingers on the trigger and when characters crossed in front of each other in tactical scenes, they lowered their weapons, to avoid accidental discharge/friendly fire. And good technique when shooting around corners.

This show needs to be incorporated into the 24 cinematic universe haha

We’re so trying to ration this. Through episode 7 and want to watch more because of the ending, but going to try and break until Wednesday. Also
Spoiler:
poor MD trooper. Really liked the guy. As soon as he started telling Rose about how they met I knew he was a goner.

Wife and I started this and ended up watching 5 episodes over the weekend. Great show so far. I think the cast is doing very well and the story (so far) hasn't had any eye rolling nonsense.

Re: The Night Agent (Netflix) -- From creator and EP Shawn Ryan -- Premieres 3/23/23

Finished it over the weekend. Overall a very entertaining season with some good twists and I liked that they paid off all the various story beats and it stands alone, but is ready for a 2nd season.

I will say that the weakest part of the show was the VP's daughter. Those last few episodes were rough to watch as she attempted to keep pace with reacting to her prediciment, and she has one of the all time ugly cry faces.

Ignoring that, it was a very fun watch.

The VP's daughter storyline is the equivalent of Kim meeting a cougar.

Just finished the season. I liked watching one episode per day.

Loved it from beginning to end. Great to hear about the season 2 pickup.

New favorite show currently airing. Well done.

Re: The Night Agent (Netflix) -- From creator and EP Shawn Ryan -- Premieres 3/23/23

Spoilers below!

Just finished it up tonight. Very enjoyable show all the way through and the final episode was very satisfying. I do wish there had been more shown about the fallout of the failed conspiracy. What does the public know about what happened? What happened to the VP and the Chief of Staff? Maybe we'll find out some of that in season 2.

One thing I liked a lot was how Rose jumped in to help Peter in some of the fights, which you don't often see in these kinds of shows. Like when Peter is fighting the assassin guy on the shoreline and Rose runs off but comes back with a wood board and clobbers the guy. And in the final episode in the communications center at Camp David when Peter is duking it out with one of the bad guys and Rose picks up the knife the guy dropped and plunges it into his leg. And of course when the woman assassin is sniping Peter and Maddie and the Secret Service agents at the shipyards and Rose bum-rushes her and knocks her off the tower. Way to go, Rose! I hope they bring her back in season 2, even though her plotline was wrapped up. Her hacking/security skills could probably be put to good use by Peter on his secret missions.

Also liked the female Secret Service agent a lot, too, and there could be a lot of ways to have her involved next season.

Re: The Night Agent (Netflix) -- From creator and EP Shawn Ryan -- Premieres 3/23/23

Really enjoyed this show. It felt “smart” - lots of nice touches. Peter switches his grip on his gun when going around corners, Rose being realistic about what she could and couldn’t hack and things like Peter shouting into the coms to figure out who was a bad guy. Or when Woodside’s character noticed the trailer hitch but didn’t just go straight to “boat. He went to “camper” and they also sent someone to check out the camper too. He didn’t make this incredible leap. Lots of that in the show. Really liked it - and a lot of unknowns in the cast too which was refreshing.

Re: The Night Agent (Netflix) -- From creator and EP Shawn Ryan -- Premieres 3/23/23

Apparently this show was pitched to NBCU for air either on NBC or Peacock and later Netflix. Those were the only two networks that were interested

Glad it didn't end up at NBC. It would have been DOA and Peacock IMO doesn't have the subscription base to support a show like this. Thank God Netflix picked it up. At least the show is also viewed worldwide.

While Netflix is the best home for it, Poker Face showed Peacock has potential for a solid viewer base.

Re: The Night Agent (Netflix) -- From creator and EP Shawn Ryan -- Premieres 3/23/23

Finished last night. Fun show with good acting, IMO. Knew Woodside was dead the second he mentioned seeing his kid soon.

We got the scene showing how Farr was dragged in after the bombing attempt. If she was so against it, why did she stick with them for the follow up attack? I understand covering up the first fuck up. How does following through with the assassination benefit POTUS (whom Farr said she was doing everything for)?

Hong Chau is having quite the year. This, Menu, Whale, minor humorous part in Poker Face.

This was a decent 'popcorn' fun kind of show.

Re: The Night Agent (Netflix) -- From creator and EP Shawn Ryan -- Premieres 3/23/23

Finished this over the weekend. Thought it was really good all around. Glad it mostly avoided cliches.

Only thing that puzzled me in the last episode:

Spoiler:
When Peter runs out of the woods towards the President how does he know which guy to shoot in the head? He hadn’t seen any of them nor did he get intel.

All in all I wasn’t expecting a Year One twist, so that’s pretty cool.

If I remember correctly, Peter was yelling into the secondary comms channel (the villains were using, ie: bring the President to the contingency plan) and yelling something about “Sutherland is approaching from behind you!!!” (paraphrased).

Of course, this was a ruse to avoid getting caught coming out of the forest. And Peter knew which guy to shoot because the villain was turning around looking for Peter (based on what he heard on the secondary comms). The legit Secret Service agents didn’t have access to the secondary comms channel, so they didn’t turn around looking for Peter.

Finished it last week. Was pretty good. The VP daughter plot was obnoxious as fuck but it still was an enjoyable ride.

Re: The Night Agent (Netflix) -- From creator and EP Shawn Ryan -- Premieres 3/23/23

This was enjoyable but yet again Shawn Ryan doesn't even scratch the quality that was The Shield. Reproducing the greatness of The Shield is hardly possible, but everything he's done since then is just OK, including Night Agent. The show had nothing new and was a lesser version of 24. The main character was even called Sutherland.
