I donít see a resemblance to Michael C. Hall. He looks kinda dorky. Unfamiliar with his work so I canít judge him on his abilities but I donít see it.

Christian Slater is the only reason I'll probably check out the first ep but I really don't see a compelling fresh take to this.

It’s amazing how Paramount/Showtime just refuses to let this IP go.

Re: Dexter: Original Sin - prequel series & Trinity series in the works

Isn't Shari Redstone green lighting anything they own to milk their IP for all its worth to help justify the asking price for selling off the studio and its assets?

She really has turned out to be the nightmare scenario her father envisioned. I had a brief interaction with her and National Amusements during my time in LA and she really is as horrible as you would think. Daddy's little girl still looking for his approval and in the process running roughshod over the creative output of their employees. Then again, her father was a super asshole himself, but I guess you have to be to build the kind of empire he created. (See Logan Roy).

Sad to see such a great studio end up in her clutches, just to be sold off like an ugly lamp at a garage sale.

Iím sure Showtime wishes that Dexter: New Blood would have lasted more than one season. Iím wondering Michael C. Hall maybe only agreed to come back for a one and done and wouldnít go beyond that. I donít think many are clamoring for a Harrison spinoff either.

I question how many people are going to be interested in a prequel or any other spinoff. A good portion of the fanbase feels burnt not once, but twice now with two terrible finales.

Iíd almost prefer a full on reboot if anything but then itís hard to see anyone but Michael C. Hall as the character.

In my mind at this point Dexter went on for three solid seasons before being cancelled.

Re: Dexter: Original Sin - prequel series & Trinity series in the works

So this is set 15 years before the original Dexter.
The actress who plays LaGuerta in the original series was 42 when the show started, and they're going to have her character be 15 years younger by casting a 42 year old actress?

Re: Dexter: Original Sin - prequel series & Trinity series in the works

I think I would have more interest in this if it was just being called a reboot rather than a prequel. Some of those castings look a bit off. Plus all those characters were at Miami Metro the entire time? None of them were other places and transferred or anything in their careers? Seems a bit off to me but maybe Iím wrong.

Re: Dexter: Original Sin - prequel series & Trinity series in the works

Deadline is now reporting the cast announcements.

Clyde Phillips is back as showrunner and they are actually shooting in Miami. The original show was filmed in LA.

https://deadline.com/2024/06/dexter-...ns-1235959140/

Dexter: Original Sin has cast four new series regulars to join previously announced Patrick Gibson, who is taking over the titular serial killer role (in his younger years) made famous by Michael C. Hall in Showtime’s Dexter.

As production kicks off today in Miami with Clyde Phillips at the helm, James Martinez (Love, Victor), Christina Milian (Falling Inn Love) and Alex Shimizu (The Blacklist) have joined the series portraying younger versions of OG characters.

The 10-episode original drama series from Paramount+ with Showtime follows Dexter (Gibson) in 1991 Miami, a student transitioning into a serial killer in training. When his bloodthirsty urges can no longer be ignored, Dexter finds solace and understanding in Harry. As his only confidant, he teaches Dexter a Code that’s designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to die—all while avoiding getting caught by law enforcement. This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.

I hope we get to see Dexter move into his apartment from the original series.

This is comical that so many principal characters are in this, like itís Muppet Babies for Dexter.

Glad Iím not the only one who feels this way. Makes sense for Harry and Deb to be on the show but the other side characters being there feels a bit silly.

Maybe if it was one of them but all three being part of the show feels like a bit of a stretch. If they were introduced later on into the series (if it lasts) that would make more sense.

This is starting to smell more like a remake than a prequel.

Iím actually surprised the show has resisted recasting Doakes as he was one of Dexterís main foes.

Maybe that's who Reno Wilson is really going to play.

Re: Dexter: Original Sin - prequel series & Trinity series in the works

Doakes shouldnít have been killed off so early. One of the showís earliest mistakes. Iíve heard others have different ideas for the character.

One I think could have been is that since Doakes wasnít always the most straight laced guy it could have been cool if he knew about Dexter, but more or less turned a blind eye to what he was doing. He could have almost taken the place of Miguel but in a different way.

The problem is it would make Doakes a useless character. His purpose in the show is being someone who Dexter needs to tip-toe around all the time because Doakes knew something was off with him. He was almost an antagonist to Dexter.

Re: Dexter: Original Sin - prequel series & Trinity series in the works

They made a lot of mistakes, but could have gone down the route of Doakes becoming conflicted, frustrated that a killer he nabbed gets off on a technicality, gradually agreeing with Dexter and maybe things coming to a head, arguments, everything.

Eliminate Quinnís character and everything related to him, give all that screen time to Doakes who was far more compelling.

Re: Dexter: Original Sin - prequel series & Trinity series in the works

The more I think about it if I ignore that this new show is a prequel it could work out well as just being viewed as a reboot. I like Dexter for the first two or three seasons but everything after is basically crap aside from Michael C. Hall.

Re: Dexter: Original Sin - prequel series & Trinity series in the works

I feel like even the whole show would not hold up if I revisited it, including the ďgoodĒ seasons. Dexter constantly spells every single thing out with his narration, things always work out for him, soap opera level cliffhangers. Itís like a pulp novel in that you read it and toss it.

the big question is will they botch the season finale which is likely to be the series finale?
