The Daily Show with guests hosts (Comedy Central)
The Daily Show will have a parade of guest hosts this year, each hosting for one week. Some of these are probably for fun, and some are probably as auditions for the permanent role. Comedy Central is expected to select a permanent host in time for the new season's start in fall 2023. There are also reports that they may be considering a duo or trio of hosts.
This week's host was Leslie Jones. While I liked her in small doses on SNL, I don't think I would be able to stand a half hour of her shouting at me each day. https://i.imgur.com/Ee7vkmI.jpg Al Franken, John Leguizamo, Hasan Minhaj, Kal Penn, and Marlon Wayans will also be guest hosting, with dates TBA. I think some of the correspondents will also have a shot at the desk. |

Like a lot of those names particularly Franken. If he wasn’t likely to head back into politics he’d be a great fit.

Many of those names have had talk shows before: Wanda Sykes, Chelsea Handler, Sarah Silverman, Al Franken, and Hasan Minhaj.

Hasan is killing it has host. Definitely should get the gig full time.

I heard Kal Penn will host too but not sure when but Minaj looks like he should have gotten the job immediately since he was a natural fit for the Daily Show and he worked on the show before.

I guess I'm the only one that thinks he's a little 'too much' as the host. I don't mind him hosting for a week but not sure I want to see him host all the time.

He and his daughter last night were fucking adorable. If he doesn't get the gig full time, that's a time he'll never forget.

John Leguizamo should be interesting.
He is not afraid to share his views in interviews and he has a new MSNBC show coming in the Spring. |

Al Franken is hosting.
I thought he was cancelled? |
re: The Daily Show with guests hosts (Comedy Central)
Watched a bit of Kal Penn and he's pretty good but he was better when they had someone else on for him to bounce off of.
My favorite so far is Sarah Silverman. I've enjoyed her work for years. |
re: The Daily Show with guests hosts (Comedy Central)
I like Franken, but this was not his best work. Surprised Lyndsey Graham would appear. Not his best work either. Maybe it'll get better as the week goes on.

The correspondents get their turn at the desk, starting today:

re: The Daily Show with guests hosts (Comedy Central)
I've never really cared much for the supporting cast (correspondents?) of the Daily Show, but Roy Wood Jr. has really done a good job so far. I wish they'd better-utilized Jon Stewart though.

It looks like Minaj is the favorite to take over
Hasan Minhaj could be ready to pour all of himself into being the host of The Daily Show. That’s what the 37-year-old comedian told Yahoo Entertainment it would take for anyone to take over one of television’s most demanding jobs in a March interview as he prepared to emcee the Film Independent Spirit Awards. On Tuesday, Varietyreported that Minhaj was being eyed by Comedy Central to take over the seat vacated by Trevor Noah in December. Noah replaced previous longtime host Jon Stewart in 2015. (The trade cautioned Minhaj’s hiring is not yet finalized.) https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/...182925032.html |

Cool, he'd be a good fit. I liked the show he (briefly) had on Netflix.

re: The Daily Show with guests hosts (Comedy Central)
I'd feel bad for Roy if he didn't get it but I couldn't complain about Hasan. Both deserve their own shows.

re: The Daily Show with guests hosts (Comedy Central)
Daily Show is returning on Oct. 16. No guest hosts announced yet, though I imagine they should let the correspondents finish their run?
But meanwhile, Roy Wood Jr. is leaving: https://www.cnn.com/2023/10/05/enter...how/index.html "After eight amazing years on The Daily Show, where I’ve been able to pursue my comedic and political curiosities with some of the best writers, producers, crew and correspondents anyone could hope for, I’ve made the decision to move on,” Wood told CNN in a statement. “I’m grateful to Trevor Noah, Paramount and especially Comedy Central for giving me the runway to also produce three one-hour stand-up specials, for letting me host two award winning podcasts, letting me write & shoot my own comedy pilot, write a film, and much, much more.” “I look forward to finding other ways to collaborate with them down the road,” he added. “Until then, I am excited to nurture new ideas and see what the future holds for me in the shifting sands of late night television, scripted comedy, and whatever else the comedy gods may have in store for me in 2024 and beyond.” |
Re: The Daily Show with guests hosts (Comedy Central)
Aw man, he was the best correspondent currently on the show. IMO he was most deserving of taking over as host.
|
Re: The Daily Show with guests hosts (Comedy Central)
Good for him. I'd imagine they never gave him an impression he was going to be host so let them go on without him. He earned that job more than anyone else and should have gotten it right away. I would have been fed up if I were him, too. HBO should give him a show that airs right after Last Week Tonight that deals with less serious/more humorous news topics.
